October 3, 2013

September: Spike in Terror Attacks

Shin Bet statistics indicate 133 terror attacks, up from 99 in August. Two soldiers were killed.

There was a sharp rise in the number of terror attacks in Israel in September, compared to the previous month, according to the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).

The Shin Bet summary for September counted 133 attacks, compared to 99 in August. Most of the attacks were in the Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria, where there were 104 attacks, compared to 68 in August.

Two soldiers were killed by Arab terrorists: Sgt. Tomer Hazan Hy"d was abducted and murdered, and First Sgt. Gal Kobi was killed by a sniper in Hevron.

In Gaza, there were three instances of rocket fire at Israel, in which a total of eight rockets were fired, and one detonation of an explosive charge.

In Jerusalem, there were 26 attacks, compared to 25 in August.

The vast majority of terror attacks in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – 117 out of 129 attacks – were firebomb attacks.

The Shin Bet statistics for terror attacks to not include rock attacks.

The Jews in the Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria – including hundreds of thousands of residents and IDF soldiers – have been braving Arab terror attacks for decades, out of a conviction that the land justly belongs to the Jewish people and that Arab violence must not be allowed to prevent them from living in their historic homeland.

Attacks on Jews increased greatly at the outbreak of the terror war usually known as the Second Intifada, in 2000. the Palestinian Authority continues, on a regular basis, to incite its residents to attack Jews.

Jewish Family Escapes Lynch Mob, but Trauma Remains

Jewish family struggles with physical, emotional scars from attack by Arab mob in Jerusalem. Attackers remain at large.

The Bruchi family of Beit El is struggling to recover from a vicious mob attack in Jerusalem. The family was attacked by a large group of Arab men and youths as they visited the capital during the Sukkot holiday last month.

In addition to physical injuries and emotional trauma that have yet to heal, the family is facing the chilling knowledge that the attackers are still at large.

During the attack the mother of the family, Naama Bruchi, was hit in the head by a large rock, and two of the couple's children were cut by broken glass and flying stones as the mob shattered the windows of the family car.

"The community here in Beit El is supportive, they're really taking care of us, but we're still suffering greatly," father Assaf Bruchi told Arutz Sheva. "My wife was hit by a large rock and suffers a concussion, we were back in the hospital this week because she was suffering extreme pain."

The children were left with trauma and difficult questions, he continued.

"We're trying to calm them down. My young [4-year-old] son asked me if there are terrorists who are children, and I told him yes, because after all he saw who was throwing rocks at us, and some of them were children," he related.

The family is hurt by the way Jerusalem Police have reacted to the attack, he said.

"We're very frustrated that the police didn't come to the scene and didn't take action. The fact is that a hareidi family from New York was attacked the very next day, in the same place, at the same time," he accused.

Dealing with other officials has been frustrated as well, he said.

"We gave our testimony to police, but unfortunately, even though this was a terrorist attack in every sense, I still need to chase down the National Insurance Institute [Bituach Leumi] to get our money back for the ambulance. The same with damage to the car, I have to go to the property tax officials."

The Jerusalem Police did not respond to Bruchi's allegations of police inaction.

Motorcyclist: 'PM Must Sort Out Terror on Route 443'

Motorcyclist says it's a miracle he survived rock attack on 443. By Adam Ross First Publish: 10/4/2013, 8:20 AM

Jerusalem resident Moshe Orange, who was hit by a large rock on his way home on Route 443, says the Prime Minister has to sort out terror attacks on the road before looking overseas.

"Before the Iranian threat, Netanyahu should worry about Security on Route 443," he told Arutz Sheva.

Orange was hit by a rock while on his motorcycle at approximately 11:00 p.m. Thursday night, as his motorbike passed the junction for Givat Zeev just ahead of the turn off for Atarot. Arab youths launched a hail of rocks towards passing vehicles, causing a number of injuries as well as serious damage to several cars.

Despite being struck by a rock whilst driving, Orange managed to maintain enough control to continue driving a few meters before stopping. He describes what happened to him as "a miracle."

" It's not clear to me how I succeeded in keeping control of the motorbike. I managed to drive a few more meters, and then offered help to those who were also injured," Orange said, even though he himself sustained an injury to his shoulder in the attack.

There were a number of other vehicles who were also damaged in the attack, he says. "Cars were damaged, windscreens were smashed and there were people suffering from shock," he told Arutz Sheva. "We called the police and Magen David Adom (Israel Ambulance Service), but after half an hour and the police had still not arrived - I gave up and left the scene. If they call me," he said, "I'll be happy to provide a testimony."

Orange also says the walls which are meant to shield Route 443 do not prevent rocks being thrown at cars, "I suspect they climbed ladders to throw rocks over the wall, they were big rocks," he said. "At the moment I have an injury to my shoulder and am recovering from the attack."

Turning his attention to the prime minster, Orange added: "I think it's time Netanyhau talked less about the Iranian threat, and start bringing back security to route 443."
