Neo- Nazi William Baker to speak at Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation banquet in Boca Raton - Mayors express outrage at misuse of their names

April 10, 2005

MIM: It took less then a year for the new Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation in Boca Raton, to out it's radical Islamist agenda, by inviting the neo Nazi William Baker to speak at their first major event. In order to provide a facade of legitimacy to this Islamo facist hate fest, Assadiq has apparently 'invited' the Mayors of Boca Raton and Coral Springs to be their 'guests of honor' without informing them that their names would be featured on the poster publicising the event. The Mayor of Boca Raton, says he was never invited at all...

Update: As of 4/13/04 The Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation has altered the event poster and removed the references to the 'guests of honor' and the Mayor of Boca Raton and Mayor of Coral Gables. The printed announcement on the website was also changed to include the title of the 'Mayor of Coral Springs'.

Both the mayor of Boca Raton and the mayor of Coral Springs deny having authorised the use of their names. They have announced that they would never attend an event featuring William Baker.

Boca Mayor Steven Abrams and Coral Springs mayor Rhon Ernest- Jones letters are below:

MIM: Mayor Steven Abrams has issued this statement to clarify his position on this event. He says that he was never invited and that the Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation used his name without his knowledge or consent.

Statement from Boca Raton Mayor Steven Abrams:

Thank you for your email regarding the Assadiq Islamic Education
Foundation event to be held in Boca Raton on April 30, 2005. I am
outraged that my name has been associated with this event. I have not
received any request to attend or be "honored" at the event and would
certainly not accept any such invitation. It is particularly upsetting
because one of the advertised speakers is William W. Baker. Several of my
family members perished in the Holocaust, and any suggestion challenging
the historical record of the Holocaust is repugnant to me.

I am, of course, seeking to contact this organization to express my
extreme displeasure and demand that my name be removed from any
advertising for this event.

MIM: Update: It is laudable that the mayor is going to deal with the misuse of his name and office in this way, and it is to be hoped that government officials will see this as a cautionary tale . If lslamists in Boca Raton think they can get away with trying to use the mayor's name to gain legitimacy for an event featuring a neo Nazi, one must logically conclude that what is going on behind the scenes is even more cause for alarm.

We can only hope that the Mayor of Boca Raton and the Boca City Council have learned to exercise caution when dealing with the 'friendly' overtures of the Muslim community. The past 4 years which have seen the terrorist connections of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (under the leadership of known Muslim extremist Ibrahim Dremali) which included a Hamas 'charity' front, and their affiliate, the Muslim Student Association at FAU ,exposed in articles with titles like "Boca Raton- City of Terror" and most recently "Terror U".

Coral Springs Mayor Ernest - Jones is another cautionary tale in the pitfalls of 'multi kulti' . As the mayor states in his letter he was approached by "a nice young cleric" who "invited him to attend a dinner at his foundation". The mayor]'s description of Imam Al Qazwini, "who communicated well ...and seemed to be the kind of leader who would seek out the paths to peace and understanding" is illustrative of the deception used by Islamo facists to deceive well meaning community leaders into providing a stamp of approval which masks their radical Islamists agendas.

MIM: Mayor Rhon Ernest - Jones wrote this letter to announce he would not be attending the event and that his name was misused.

Let me first say that, until I spoke recently to Mr. Art Teitelbaum of the ADL, I had no idea who William Baker is or what viewpoint he represents. Now I know, but since I have not seen any of the publicity for the upcoming event, I am at a disadvantage. The very notion that I am "sharing the spotlight with Baker" is offensive to me.

Having said that, I will recount a simple flow of events which has led to this misunderstanding and unintended consequence. In February of this year, the City of Coral Springs hosted a celebration of Eid. As you may know, Coral Springs is a front-runner with regard to building multi-cultural relations and to the fostering of communication and goodwill between people of different races, colors and creeds. At the Eid event I met a young cleric named Imam Mohammad Jawad Al-Qazwini, who communicated well and seemed to my wife and me to be the kind of leader who would seek out the paths to peace and understanding. About one month ago I received a message from him, inviting me to attend a dinner of his educational foundation. No mention was made as to who the speakers would be. I replied that I could not stay for the whole evening and could not be a guest of honor, but that my wife and I would be happy to drop by for half an hour to pay respects. I do not know if you are familiar with the life of a Mayor, but I can assure you that brief appearances at events is an almost daily occurance, and often several in one day. The idea being to spread goodwill and information, and to build relations. The next thing I heard was your message, which quite surprised and shocked me. I am still making enquiries as to how the Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation felt at liberty to use my name to promote the event, and because they did so without my permission I will not be attending the event. I will be contacting them directly to stop their use of my name.

I am sending this message in response to yours and also with the hope that you will pass it on to those who have an interest in this matter.

According toStan Brin's article in the Orange County Weekly, Baker (who is listed on the Assadiq banquet announcement as being from the LA Crystal Cathedral) was kicked out by them in 2002:

"...The Reverend Robert Schuller has quietly told self-styled "interfaith leader" William Baker to vacate his Crystal Cathedral office. The order came after an investigation published in OC Weekly revealed that Baker, who runs Christians and Muslims for Peace (CAMP), has a long history of anti-Semitic politics and held a leadership position in neo-Nazi organizations. The investigation also revealed that Baker had manufactured much of his alleged academic qualifications.

"We have separated ourselves from the CAMP ministry, and Mr. Baker will be off the campus as of May 31," a Crystal Cathedral spokesman said.

Sources at Crystal Cathedral stated that the decision was based largely on revelations made in OC Weekly ("Hour of White Power," Feb. 15). Soon after that story appeared, the Crystal Cathedral removed from the church's website a link to Baker's CAMP site, where Baker had peddled an anti-Semitic book titled Theft of a Nation.... http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/02/37/news-brin.php

MIM:. In light of the fact that the CA sent Baker packing in 2002 because among other things "he had manufactured much of his alleged academic qualifications", is the Assadiq banquet poster which lists him as being from the LA Crystal Cathedral a continuation of this pattern?

-----------------------------------------------------

MIM: Neo Nazi William Baker and the' guests of honor' can look forward to Bin Laden and suicide bomber jokes made by Azhar Uzman, a member of the ' Allah Made Me Funny' Stand Up 'Camidians' (sic) who are scheduled to perform at the banquet. http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/415

"...He bounds on to the stage with a beaming "as-salaam alaykum" (peace be upon you), which he informs us means "We're gonna kill you!!!"

"I'm Osama bin Laden's cousin," he declared. "They call me 'Bin Laughin.' "

"I'm an American. But I'm an American Muslim. In fact, I consider myself a very patriotic American Muslim, which means I would die for this country…""by blowing myself up…""in a Dunkin' Donuts."

MIM: In addition to 9/11' humor' Allah Made Me Funny member Preacher Moss, had this to say about homosexuals and Islam. http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/415

Moss claimed homosexuals are "like Visa, everywhere I want to be," dismissed gay rights with an impression of a man cooing, "I have a dream, too!" in reaction to Martin Luther King's civil rights speech, and implied that gay men like the prostrate Muslim praying stance and wear the hijab.

MIM: Note that the Mayor of Boca Raton and Coral Springs are scheduled to speak at this radical Islamist event hosting neo Nazi William Baker . Dr. Daniel Pipes has noted this as an update to his weblog "Keeping Up with William Baker and the Islamists http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/438

April 9, 2005 update: News from Boca Raton, courtesy of MilitantIslamMonitor.org: "Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation Invites All Muslim Community to Celebrate the Birthday of the Last Messenger of God" at a hotel on April 30, free admission for all. The top of the program is guest speaker "Dr." William Baker. The program states that "From Grand crystal cathedral in Los Angeles - California. Dr. Baker is one of the most outstanding figures in the Christian world. Set back relax and enjoy his understanding of Islam." The guests of honor will include the mayors of Boca Raton and Coral Springs, as well as the "educative chairman of CAIR," whoever that is. It is old hat for Islamists to sponsor Baker; but it would be scandalous for the mayors to endorse Baker's presence. To protest their doing so, contact either or both mayors:

MIM: Note see Mayor Steven Abrams letter above in which he states that he was "outraged" that his name was associated with this event.

Coral Springs Mayor Rhon Ernest - Jones has also written a letter in which he explains that he had agreed to pass by the event as a mayoral courtesy after being asked by the Assadiq Imam Al Qazwini. He wrote that he was unaware of the guests scheduled and that he will "not be attending the event".

----------------------------------------------------------------

MIM: Dr.Daniel Pipes wrote an article about Baker's appearence at an Islamist conference in Toronto where local politicians participated in the gathering entitled "Canadian Islamists Host a neo- Nazi".

"It also bears noting that .... big-time authority figures ....participated in the "Reviving the Islamic Spirit" conference, thereby giving it – and by implication, William W. Baker – their blessing."

As I wrote recently of a comparable case in Boston where politicians did favors for a radical mosque: "The moral of this too-oft-repeated tale is not hard to guess: politicians – and bureaucrats, journalists, clergy, academics, et al. – need to know an Islamic institution is clean of Islamist associations and intentions before endorsing it ... Good will and ecumenical intent cannot substitute for research."

---------------------------------------

MIM:An article in the Sun Sentinel about the planned Islamist event says that Boca mayor Steven Abrams, "had not heard of the mosque" until his title appeared on their event flyer together with neo Nazi William Baker.

Mayor Ernest -Jones stated that he agreed to pay a courtesy call at the event, and had no idea who the speakers were.

Both mayor's statements illustrate the point which Dr.Daniel Pipes made when he wrote that," ...politicians ...need to know that an Islamic institution is clean of Islamist associations an'd intentions before endorsing it"....Good will and ecumenical intent cannot subsitute for research...

Boca Mayor Angered after mosque uses name to promote controversial event

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/palmbeach/sfl-pmayors14apr14,0,130302.story?coll=sfla-news-palm

Two mayors got angry e-mails this week berating them for planning to attend an event with a speaker a civil rights group says has a history of anti-Semitism.

Boca Raton Mayor Steven Abrams and Coral Springs Mayor Rhon Ernest-Jones said they didn't give the Assadiq Islamic Educational Foundation permission to use their names in a flier announcing a mosque celebration. The event's featured speaker is William Baker, president and founder of Christians and Muslims for Peace.

The Anti-Defamation League says Baker has a history of anti-Semitic activity.

Abrams, who is Jewish, said he has never heard of the Boca Raton-based mosque, was never invited to its event at a Boca Raton hotel and didn't give his permission to use his title in the invitation as a guest of honor.

Ernest-Jones, married to a Jewish woman, had a similar experience. He said he met Imam Sayed Mohammad Jawad Al-Qazwini and agreed to stop in and "pay respects" at the mosque's April 30 celebration of the Prophet Muhammad.

But Jones didn't know the speakers and didn't agree to have his title used to publicize the event.

"They completely used my name under false pretense," Ernest-Jones said.

Both men were aghast to find out what the Anti-Defamation League's thought about Baker.

"It's my view that the only thing Baker can add to this gathering is the poison of anti-Semitism," said Art Teitelbaum, the league's southern area director.

Attempts to contact Baker, based in Laguna Hills, Calif. failed. Al-Qazwini is traveling and unavailable to comment, said Zynab Hassan, 21.

A message on the mosque's answering machine said to contact Hassan or Mustafa Albassam, 19, with any questions regarding the event. Hassan and Albassam both said they're assistants helping to coordinate the celebration, but they were not involved in choosing the speakers.

Hassan said the flier on the Web site was a rough draft and the 2,000 that were printed didn't list any guests of honor. She also said she didn't know about Baker's history.

"I don't know that the imam knew that," Hassan said about Baker's past.

Teitelbaum said a 1982 book Baker wrote was filled with anti-Jewish, anti-Israel rhetoric. He said Baker was named chairman of the Populist Party in 1994, one of the leading anti-Semitic groups.

"It's regrettable and disheartening to find that this level of hatred and insensitivity exists among those who find Baker an attractive speaker and participant at their meetings," Teitelbaum said.

Both mayors responded to the angry e-mails that ended up on at least two Web sites.

Abrams cited Baker's affiliation with a group that disputes the Holocaust.

"Several of my family members perished in the Holocaust, and any suggestions challenging the historical record is repugnant to me," he said.

MIM: This is an account of William Baker's appearence at an Islamist conference last year in Toronto

Canadian Islamists host a neo-Nazi

by Daniel Pipes
WorldNetDaily.com
January 7, 2004

A just-finished, very large Islamist conference in Toronto (the Toronto Star says it attracted 7,000 participants) called "Reviving the Islamic Spirit" featured such stars of the Islamist circuit as Tariq Ramadan and Siraj Wahhaj. It also hosted a neo-Nazi named William W. Baker.

Baker was exposed in February 2002 in the Orange County Weekly in a major investigation by Stan Brin, titled "Hour of White Power: Reverend Robert H. Schuller relies on a man with ties to Neo-Nazis to build religious understanding." Brin established Baker's close ties to Willis Carto, the "dean of American neo-Nazi politics," and revealed Baker's many other insalubrious activities, including his chairmanship in 1984 of a neo-Nazi organization called the Populist Party. Soon after, the Crystal Cathedral's Schuller expelled Baker and cut all ties to him.

But the news has not gotten out. William W. Baker stills gets invited to – and paid by – reputable institutions. In October 2003, Campus Watch exposed Baker's presence at an event sponsored by the Muslim Student Association at the University of Pennsylvania. As Jonathan Calt Harris noted, "Baker's selection as speaker is bad enough, but the use of university funds to pay for it is a scandal; the Office of the Chaplain and the Office of the Vice Provost for University Life helped MSA come up with nearly $5,000 for the week-long program," part of which money went to pay for Baker. Our expose prompted press coverage, red faces and lots of denials – but the talk went ahead as scheduled.

On Jan. 3, 2004, Baker appeared at the Toronto conference and delivered a talk titled, "More in common than you think." The Star archly characterized his presentation this way: "During his panel, which was to explore common ground between Islam and Christianity, Baker criticized Israel's treatment of Palestinians and asked audience members if they were willing to stand up and demonstrate for the Palestinian people."

We have some idea of the content of his talk because More in Common Than You Think: The Bridge Between Islam & Christianity also happens to be the title of Baker's 1998 book, which Stephen Schwartz characterizes as an attempt "to bring together fringe Christians and extremist Muslims."

The Canadian Jewish Congress protested William W. Baker's presence, but the Toronto Star reports this in the softest possible way, stating only that the CJC alleged Baker "been connected with American groups with a racist agenda."

The Star then provides this full-bodied – but dubious – quote from Jeewan Chanicka, the event's media-relations director: "We have no business being involved in inviting anyone who shares any agenda of hate and racism, because we don't find that to be anything within the realm of Islam or beliefs as Muslims, especially within the purpose of this conference, which is promoting a pluralistic Canadian society."

It also bears noting that such big-time authority figures as Toronto mayor David Miller, Toronto police chief Julian Fantino and Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli participated in the "Reviving the Islamic Spirit" conference, thereby giving it – and by implication, William W. Baker – their blessing.

"...As I wrote recently of a comparable case in Boston where politicians did favors for a radical mosque: "The moral of this too-oft-repeated tale is not hard to guess: politicians – and bureaucrats, journalists, clergy, academics, et al. – need to know an Islamic institution is clean of Islamist associations and intentions before endorsing it ... Good will and ecumenical intent cannot substitute for research."

Local Jews protest Neo-Nazi speaker at FAU

Controversy has come to the FAU campus in the form of William Baker, an alleged neo-nazi, and his organization known as C.A.M.P. (Christians and Muslims for Peace).
William Baker and members of C.A.M.P. were invited to speak to students and faculty at Florida Atlantic University by the university's Muslim Student Organization, but due to protests by local Jewish organizations the event has been "postponed" and may be rescheduled for a future date.
Baker is the founder and president of C.A.M.P., a nonprofit organization made up of Christian and Muslim men and women, that claims to promote peace and understanding between the two religions. But in 1984, he was chairman of the Populist Party, a neo-Nazi organization that was established by Willis Carto, a political racist who denied the Jewish Holocaust ever took place.
Baker claims that he never supported the views of Carto. Yet at his 1984 convention for the Populist Party, Baker endorsed the restoration of segregation laws. He also expressed anti-Semitic views in his 1982 book about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Theft of a Nation,
Baker was invited to speak to the Muslim Student Organization on Saturday about the similarites in Christian and Muslim beliefs and history, and how they can come together in peace. Baker says the world needs C.A.M.P. because 54% of the world's population is Christian and Muslim.
In October of 2003, Baker was invited to speak at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia by the Muslim Students Association. His attendance created such a disturbance between Jewish and Muslim students that the presidents of the two student groups decided to issue a statement of unity which declared that they would "rise above perceived differences" and "inspire peace in our world."
Steve Mendelsohn, chair of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County can't understand why the MSO would invite Baker to a scholarly seminar when he isn't even a scholar.
"The true nature of this man is not a scholar. He is not a Muslim. He is not a scholar. To invite him to a scholarly seminar and program is a mockery. Giving him credit when he has none is abhorrent."
It has also been revealed that most of Baker's academic history was made up. He claims to have a doctorate, yet all he has been able to produce is proof of a bachelor's degree from Ozark Christian College. He also boasts of being nominated for a Noble Peace Prize in 1997, and being appointed in 2001 as Ambassador of Peace by Reverend and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon.
Mark Medin, Florida Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League says it is hard to understand why the MSO would invite Baker in the first place.
"We respect the university's First Amendment issues and any student organization has a right to invite who they choose, but from our perspective, we hope that the University Administration would condemn his views. There must be some sense of negative intent."
Bill Gralnick of the American Jewish Committee agrees.
"This is a guy who is making a living being the white spokesperson for Muslim extremists. He gets to say what he wants and the Muslims get to have a non-Muslim say what they want."
However, when Aileen Izquierdo, Director of Communications at FAU, was told about Baker's history, she said, "Regarding individuals who may come to campus with controversial backgrounds, the university will stand for the person to come here and uphold the First Amendment, but what the person says does not reflect the university as a whole."
Muneer Arafat, Imam of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton says he can't comment on Baker's past because he is not familiar with it and does not wish to punish someone for their past. "But," he says, "if he could bring points of conflict together, I encourage it. However, if he raises hatred among two or three groups, then it should be discouraged."
In 2003, there were 1,557 anti-Semitic occurrences in the nation. In Florida alone, there were 102 incidents, an increase of almost 10 percent, according to the ADL.
Izquierdo says Baker could still be given the opportunity to speak at the school.
"For now it has been postponed. The students hosting this event did not have enough time to fully organize the event properly."

William Baker's book about Israel :
Theft of a Nation

Excerpt from Theft of a Nation

"Now consider what has taken place from 1917 to the present day. The entire country of Palestine has been "taken" by political Zionists, and it would seem the entire world has believed, supported and participated in the "theft" of an entire country from an entire nation Land, homes, customs, economy, everything which formerly belonged to the Arab people have been replaced with Israeli control and influence, including the very name of the country! The assumption that Palestine is the Jewish homeland and they only require aid to get back what is "rightfully" theirs has been so well propagandized that one is accused of "discrimination" or anti-Semitism if not supportive of the occupation and theft of Palestine. But we must insist on presenting the facts regardless of the emotional response incurred from others, or there will never be a just and lasting settlement of this tragic injustice."

MIM:This from little green footballs:

The Orange County Weekly did a story on William Baker when he was fired from Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral after his affiliations with extremist groups came to light:

The Reverend Robert Schuller has quietly told self-styled "interfaith leader" William Baker to vacate his Crystal Cathedral office.

15). Soon after that story appeared, the Crystal Cathedral removed from the church's website a link to Baker's CAMP site, where Baker had peddled an anti-Semitic book titled Theft of a Nation.

Baker was chairman of the neo-Nazi Populist Party in 1984 and organized its national convention that year. The Populist Party was established and directed by Willis Carto, head of the now-defunct Liberty Lobby. The dean of American neo-Nazi politics, Carto also founded the Costa Mesa-based Institute for Historical Review, a group whose central purpose is Holocaust denial. In a written statement, Baker claimed he did not know the Populist Party was racist and that he never shared Carto's racist politics. http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=9527_Neo-Nazi_Invited_to_Speak_at_Toronto_Islamic_Conference

Crystal Cathedral evicts preacher with neo-Nazi ties

The Reverend Robert Schuller has quietly told self-styled "interfaith leader" William Baker to vacate his Crystal Cathedral office.

"I never supported the views of Willis Carto," he wrote. "I was chairman of the Populist Party for a short time and publicly resigned due to infiltration from various racist individuals and organizations."

The printed Populist platform introduced at Baker's 1984 convention included states'-rights provisions that would allow states to restore segregation laws and repeal the public-accommodations sections of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The platform also expressed a clear intention to create Nazi-style Nuremberg Laws: "The Populist Party will not permit any racial minority, through control of the media, culture distortion or revolutionary political activity, to divide or factionalize [sic] the majority of the society-nation in which the minority lives."

In addition, evidence supplied by the Anti-Defamation League shows that Baker delivered a 1983 speech to the racist Christian Patriot Defense League in Licking, Missouri, in which he made several references to Carto's neo-Nazi newspaper, Spotlight. He also described his disgust at traveling to New York: "God help me. Why? 'Cause the first people I meet when I get off the plane are pushy, belligerent American Jews."

According to Baker's former website, CAMP is a Laguna Hills-based nonprofit organization, a legal status that allows donors to deduct contributions from income taxes. But according to the state Registrar of Nonprofit Corporations, CAMP is not registered as a nonprofit with the agency or with the state Franchise Tax Board. While Baker claimed graduate studies at Oxford and the "Near East Institute," he could only substantiate a bachelor's degree from Ozark Christian College
