MIM: Haitham Al-Haddad the controversial British-Palestinian sharia expert, said that he would come to Amsterdam on Friday.
Al-Haddad said according to the Dutch Broadcasting Station that he did not receive a cancellation from the Free University in Amsterdam. Al Haddad said was supposed to speak there at a symposium after an invitation from the Islamic Student Union of Amsterdam.
The Free University had originally said that the invitation to Al-Haddad fit the criteria of an academic debate, but changed their minds on Wednesday. The reason for the cancellation is the political and societal commotion which developed over the planned visit of Al-Haddad. A House majority of the VVD, CDA, PVV, CU, and SGP wrote to Minister Opstelten with their objection to the arrival of Al-Haddad.
The sharia expert is also very controversial in his own country due to his comments about Jews, whom he sees as "enemies of God" and called them apes and pigs. In his own land is Al-Haddad therefore not welcome everywhere.
In 2009 Al- Haddad was in Amsterdam when he was honorary guest of the National Islam Congress. He proclaimed then that the definition of Islam was not peace, but submission. He also urged Dutch Muslims to demand sharia courts and to impose Islamic family law.

Haatsjeik wil toch komen
AMSTERDAM - Haitham al-Haddad, de omstreden Brits-Palestijnse shariageleerde, zegt dat hij vrijdag toch naar Amsterdam komt.Al-Haddad zei volgens de NOS dat hij geen afzegging heeft gekregen van de Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Daar zou hij spreken op een symposium op uitnodiging van de Islamitische Studentenvereniging Amsterdam.
De VU zei aanvankelijk dat de uitnodiging aan al-Hassad aan de voorwaarden voor een academisch debat voldeed, maar kwam daar woensdagmiddag van terug. Reden voor de afgelasting is de politieke en maatschappelijke commotie die is onstaan over de geplande komst van al-Haddad. Een Kamermeerderheid van VVD, CDA, PVV, CU en SGP tekende bij minister Opstelten bezwaar aan tegen het geplande optreden.
De shariageleerde is in eigen land zeer omstreden vanwege zijn uitspraken over Joden, die hij als 'vijanden van god' ziet en eerder uitmaakte voor apen en varkens. In eigen land is Al-Haddad daarom niet overal welkom.
Al-Haddad was in 2009 ook al in Amsterdam, toen als eregast op het Nationaal Islam Congres. Hij verkondigde toen onder meer dat de definitie van islam niet vrede is, maar overgave. Ook spoorde hij Nederlandse moslims aan om shariahrechtbanken te eisen die islamitisch familierecht toepassen.
