Two New Jersey Muslims Plead Quilty To Terror Charges

March 3 2011- Militant Islam Monitor-Two New Jersey men have pleaded guilty to charges they were attempting to join an Al-Qaeda group. They both journeyed to Jordan in 2007 to join extremist groups there but failed to be recruited. They were arrested at Kennedy Airport in 2010 when they attempted to go to Somalia to fight with Al Shabab an Al Qaeda affiliate.

Mohammed Mahmood Alessa 21, is the son of Palestinian immigrants and lived in North Bergen. Carlos Edwardo Almonte 24, is a convert to Islam and a naturalized U.S. citizen who lived in Elmwood Park. Both men " admitted to conspiring to kill, maim and kidnap persons outside the United States by trying to join al-Shabab, a designated terrorist organization."

Sentencing is expected on June 20th.
