November 8, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Facing numerous challenges, some of them existential threats to its survival, Israel is now realizing - as have numerous Western European countries - that the constant influx of foreign born guest workers into the Jewish state threatens to radically change its demographics.
On Monday, National Union chairman Yaakov Katz made an impassioned presentation to a committee of the Knesset outlining the destabilizing influence of as many as 100,000 Africans taking up residence in Tel Aviv, "...Their movement to Tel Aviv will make Tel Aviv look like an African city, MK Katz told the committee. He added that the city's Jews, many of whom consider themselves tolerant pacifists but oppose a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, ironically will flee to the hills of Samaria to "escape the flood..." Katz' sentiments seem to play into growing public opposition to unrestricted immigration despite Israel's traditional respect for ethnic diversity.
