Muthanna Al-Hanooti, Another CAIR Official Indicted On Terrorism Charges

Saddam Spy Hanooti Greeted By First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton

March 29, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The Council on American Islam Relations [CAIR] is in the news again, this time because the former director of its Michigan office, Muthanna Al-Hanooti, has been indicted on federal terror charges.

Hanooti was at the time of his employment by CAIR an Iraqi agent, a spy, working for Sadam Hussein.

Not only do archived records of a June 2000 CAIR press release - a document first made public by Steven Emerson's Investigative Project - indicate his association with the Saudi funded Hamas mouthpiece, but FEC records excerpted below, show Al-Hanooti listing his employer during the period as being CAIR, as do Michigan incorporation records.

Al-Hanooti was indicted on March 26 on federal charges for acting as an agent for Saddam Hussein when he set up a pre-war trip to Iraq for 3 notoriously left-wing Democrat congressmen, Mike Thompson [D-CA], David Bonior [D-MI, retired] and Jim McDermott [D-WA]

Demostrating the depths to which these Democrats have fallen, in 1996 a federal court ruled that McDermott, "acted improperly in giving reporters access to a recording of a 1996 telephone call of Republican leaders discussing the House ethics case against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga." [source, New York Times, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/04/washington/04tape.html]

McDermott appealed the decision all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court which refused in 2007 to review the matter leaving the ruling in place, "The decision upholds a previous court ruling ordering McDermott to pay House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, more than $800,000 for leaking the taped conversation. The figure includes $60,000 in damages and more than $800,000 in legal costs for Boehner, who filed suit against McDermott nearly a decade ago." Of additional concern, Thompson currently sits on the House Intelligence Committee not exactly a position one might think appropriate for a stooge of Saddam Hussein's.

With Al-Hanooti now in the federal crosshairs that makes 2 high level CAIR officials [the other being Ghassah Elashi, the founder of the Texas chapter of the CAIR, a key defendant in the Holy Land Foundation terror funding trial] currently under prosecution, with CAIR having been named last summer as an unindicted co-conspirator in that case.

Perhaps the largest unanswered question about this matter is will this high level prosecution of yet another high-level Council on American Islamic Relations' functionary finally turn the tide and force the media as well as public and private officials to finally treat the group for what it is, an anti-America, radical Muslim organization that is entirely too terror friendly?

For our part, we are not holding our collective breaths.
