Congressman Chaka Fattah and the Black Nationalist Movement
The news that Democratic Congressman Chakka Fattah might run for mayor lead to speculation as to if his wife, a television news anchor with Channel 10 would have to give up her job due to conflict of interests noting that :
"…Chenault-Fattah does not report on any of her husband's activities as a congressman, but he only represents a small part of the city's population. If he was to become mayor, it would be a whole different ball game.
What would Chenault-Fattah do every time a city issue came up, defer to co-anchor Tim Lake? That might mean she would be silent for most of the newscast. Chenault-Fattah said her position has always been that there is no connection between their jobs. "He does what he does, and I do what I do," she said.
Back to the money issue, if Chenault-Fattah did have to resign, that would be a major lifestyle change for the couple. Chenault-Fattah makes a very large six-figure salary, which vastly exceeds her husband's, whose base salary is $162,100.
If Fattah became mayor, he would receive $165,000. ..."
Another issue which could play a role in Fattah's candidacy is his standing in the Black community . A web biography entitled ":The next mayor" candidly informs us that:
"NAACP president J. Whyatt Mondesire is a sworn foe, and there's bad blood between Fattah and other African-American Democrats in Northwest Philadelphia…"
Which begs the question if this antipathy can be attributed to Fattah as being perceived as having his loyalities lie in Arab causes, and his family's history of ‘civic activism' involving Black Nationalist groups like the National Black United Front which is linked to the Black Panthers Defense and the NOI. According to a bio of Fattah's mother, the family adopted the name because they did not want to "carry a slave name".
The name change indicates that Chaka Fattah's father was neither Arab nor Muslim, which begs the question as to why the website of the American Arab Institute Arab American Institute ( The AAI a Saudi funded ‘think tank' run by James Zogby a Marronite Christian), devotes a page to to a biography of Fattah, who gives his religion as a Baptist. http://legislators.com/arab/bio/?id=500
In February 2005 Fattah sent out a press release entitled " Fattah offers Winning Exit Strategy for Iraq" which the text of hisi letter to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice on this issue. This is not the first time that Chaka has taken up the Iraqi and Arab cause . In 2000 he was co signer of a petition and participant in a press conference and ‘rally' which called upon Congressmen to join together with American Muslims in ‘calling for an end to the devasting embargo on Iraq " . The event was organized American Muslims for Global Peace and Justice, and the list of co sponsors reads like a Who's Who of radical Islamist groups in the United States, and included CAIR, MAS, ICNA, ISNA, AMC, ADC,, MPAC, AAI, and Life for Relief and Development, a ‘charity' whose offices were raided in Iraq on suspicion of helping anti US forces. The head of LifeUSA (a terrorist linked charity), was Muwthanna Al Hanooti , was one of the coordinators of the event.
Closer to home, the Fattah family has direct and troubling ties to Black Nationalist organisations. Fattah's mother, aka"Queen Mother Falaka', is the CEO of "The House of Umoja' a boys shelter which she runs with her husband David, a former gang member. Both the programs and the premises of the HOF is operate on the Afro Centric fraud perpetrated by Maulana Karenga – the ex street thug turned cryto theologian who invented the hoax of Kwanzaa . A bio of Queen Mother Falaka on the HOF website informs us that it;
"operates on the principle of the extended family, guided by the African-American concept of Nguzo Saba, which provides a therapeutic methodology through which the lives of residents are successfully redirected…" As a tribute to our ancestors' cultural and educational ideals, the HOU began replicating in appearance and essence the ancient African city of Djenné on the 1400 block of Frazier Street. In its 37th year, the HOU is working to raise one-million dollars to complete this project…"
In addition to banks and corporate sponsors funders for the House of Umoja include the State of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia School District, and the Pennslyvania Department of Community and Development.
The biography also tells us that Queen Mother Falaka Fattah co- founded the National Black United Front, a radical Black Nationalist group affliliated with the Black Panthers, NOI the Pan African Movement, African National Congress, and the Truth Enterprise Institute whose webmaster disseminates anti semitic tracts . The NBUF is now officially designated as a "certified organisation of the Black Federation of Charities" .
"…Queen Mother Falaka Fattah co-founded the (National)Black United Front with the late State Representative David P. Richardson to empower the Black community.
Her greatest working endeavor is as the founder and CEO of the House of Umoja, Inc. In 1968 she founded UMOJA Magazine as a communication product of the 3rd Black Power Conference which was held at Church of the Advocate. In 1970, UMOJA Magazine was extended into the House of Umoja Boystown. …Upon discovering that one of her six sons had joined a gang, Queen Mother Falaka and, her husband, David Fattah took the bold step of inviting the gang to become a part of the family. With a promise to keep them alive and out of jail, the Fattah home became the House of Umoja Boystown, and initially operated for three years without public or private support..."

Falaka Fattah's connections to the movement may be manifest in Falaka and David's Fattah's running of the Black Nationalist oriented ‘ House of Umoja' in Philadelphia. The House of Umoja (which means Unity) in Swahili, is one of several in the United States and operates according to the Black Nationalist ideology of Maulana Karenga - the Founder of the United Slaves. Karenga was jailed for battering and torturing two women in the group and emerged from prison to take up a professorship at a California university.

UMOJA (00-MOE-JAH) UNITY
The first principle is a commitment to the idea of togetherness. This principle is a foundation; for without unity, neither the family nor the community can survive. National African-American unity begins with the family.
Open discussions of family problems and their probable solutions are very important.
KUJICHAGULIA (CO-GEE-CHA-GOO-LEE-AH) SELF-DETERMINATION
The second principle is a commitment to building our lives in our own images and interests. If we, as a people, are to achieve our goals we must take the responsibility for that achievement upon ourselves, for self-determination is the essence of freedom. This day calls for a reaffirmation of our commitment to Black America's struggle to build a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
UJIMA (00-GEE-MA) COLLECTIVE WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY
The third principle encourages self-criticism and personal evaluation, as it relates to the common good of the family/community. Without collective work and struggle, progress is impossible. The family and the community must accept the reality that we are collectively responsible for our failures, as well as our victories and achievements. Discussions concerning each family member's responsibility prove helpful in defining and achieving family goals.
UJAMAA (00-JAH-MAH) COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS
Out of the fundamental concepts of "African Communal Living" comes the fourth principle of Kwanzaa. In a community or family, wealth and resources should be shared. On the national level, cooperative economics can help African-Americans take physical control of their own destinies. On this day, ideas should be shared and discussed for cooperative economic efforts to provide for needs as related to housing, education, food, day care, health, transportation and other goods and services.
NIA (NEE-AH) PURPOSE
The fifth day of Kwanzaa is a day for reviewing our purpose for living. Each family member should examine his/her ability to put his/her skill or talent to use In the service of the family and community at large. Take time to reflect on your expectations from life: discuss your desires and hopes with family and friends. On this day you should try to determine if this purpose will eventually result in positive achievements for family and community.
KUUMBA (KOO-M-BAH) CREATIVITY
The sixth principle of the Nguzo Saba relates to building and developing our creative potential. It involves both aesthetic and material creations. It is essential that creativity be encouraged in all aspects of African American culture. It is through new ideas that we achieve higher levels of living and a greater appreciation for life. Each family member should find creative things to do throughout the year that will enhance the family as a whole. On this day, poetry reading, songfests, dance exhibitions and the like, can aid in promoting the Importance of Kuumba.
IMANI (E-MAH-NE) FAITH
The seventh principle is belief in ourselves as individuals and as a people. Further, it is a commitment to the development of the family and the national African-American community. African America's goal of freedom rests significantly on our belief in our own ability and right to control our own destiny. Without Imani (faith), there is no possibility of victory.

II. THE PRINCIPLES
The set of principles which we put forth is the Nguzo Saba (The Seven Principles): Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination); Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility); Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics); Nia (Purpose); Kuumba (Creativity) and Imani (Faith). These Seven Principles are essential standards of personal and social excellence directed toward building and sustaining moral community, and strengthening and maintaining the community's capacity to define, defend and develop its interests in the most positive and productive sense. In addition to being standards of excellence, the Nguzo Saba are also categories of priorities and categories of human possibilities. As categories of priorities, they tell us some of the most important things in our lives, identifying a key set of views, values and practices which we should, even must, put first in our personal and social life. And as categories of possibilities, the Nguzo Saba, offer us a set of principles which encourage thought and practice which help define, develop and enhance our humanity in the context of community and the world.
III. THE PROGRAM
Although our overall project is broad and far-reaching, there are seven fundamental kinds of activities which serve as the hinge and hub on which the project turns. First, we have committed ourselves to continuing the cultural revolution initiated in the 60's. This involves: sustaining and always expanding and deepening the dialog with African culture; recovering, creating, recreating and circulating the best of African culture; and posing models of excellence and paradigms of possibilities from this. Secondly, our thrust is to continue and expand political education process through literature forums and social practice which defines and clarifies issues; reinforces community, and teaches and increases political participation and political action.

Washington D.C.- August 6, 2000 will mark the TENTH anniversary of UN
Security Council resolution 661 that imposed a comprehensive embargo on
Iraq. Additionally, it has been NINE years since the bombing of Iraq in
January 1991 which has resulted in the destruction of the Iraqi civilian
infrastructure including water, electrical and communication facilities.
Water plants throughout the country are using river water with high sewage
contamination. Overall poor sanitary conditions have already led to a
four-fold increase in diseases such as diarrhea among children under five
years of age.
Iraq "has experienced a shift from relative affluence to massive poverty.
In marked contrast to the prevailing situation prior to the events of
1990-91, the infant mortality rates in Iraq today are among the highest in
the world, low infant birth weight affects at least 23% of all births,
chronic malnutrition affects every fourth child under five years of age,
only 41% of the population have regular access to clean water, 83% of all
schools need substantial repairs. The ICRC states that the Iraqi
health-care system is today in a decrepit state. UNDP calculates that it
would take 7 billion US dollars to rehabilitate the power sector

Dear Secretary Rice: Without compromising the common welfare, security, and stability of the Iraqi people, the Bush Administration and the Iraqi government should enter into discussions with representatives from the United Nations and the Arab League to aggressively pursue all viable options that will allow for the overall reduction of U.S. forces in Iraq. One possible option that warrants serious consideration is the creation of an Arab and Muslim security peacekeeping force operating under the authorization of the United Nations. The deployment of Arab and Muslim peacekeeping forces in Iraq would demonstrate a unified global commitment to the Iraqi people that their fledgling democracy will be given an opportunity to grow and prosper without threat from disruptive insurgents, while quelling regional fears of the permanency of the presence of U.S. troops. CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS QUESTIONS DUE PROCESS FOR MUMIA ABU-JAMAL
WASHINGTON, DC -- Justice can only be served through a new trial for Mumia Abu-Jamal, concluded Congressmen Chaka Fattah and John Conyers, speaking on behalf of the entire 38 Member Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). Congressman Fattah, a Philadelphia Democrat, has been closely monitoring the Abu-Jamal case for almost two decades and has concluded that a new trial is necessary in order to carry out Abu-Jamal's constitutional right to due process. Congressman Conyers, the leading Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, agrees. Even as Governor Tom Ridge (R-PA) signs Mumia Abu-Jamal's death warrant, there are still many issues that have not been resolved. Abu-Jamal, an African-American journalist from Philadelphia known for his reporting of police brutality during the 1970's and 80's, was sentenced to death in 1982, for the murder of a white police officer. Testimony of eyewitnesses was suppressed, a witness was bribed to testify against Abu-Jamal, ballistics evidence did not match the circumstances of the case, there is no physical evidence linking Abu-Jamal to the crime, and tests which could have been done to prove his guilt or innocence were not ordered. At the trial, Abu-Jamal, a powerful orator, was denied the right to represent himself and even denied the right to confront his accuser. The judge used his insistence on his right to represent himself as an excuse to remove him from the trial. No audio transmission of the trial was provided, therefore, Abu-Jamal was unable to hear most of the prosecution's case. There are many reasons for the CBC's reservations in the Abu-Jamal case. Founded in 1968, the House of Umoja (HOU) was officially organized in 1970 as a communication and youth development agency. At that time gang warfare was a horrendous problem and governmental authorities and community agencies were struggling to cope with the problem. Upon discovering that one of her six sons had joined a gang, Queen Mother Falaka and, her husband, David Fattah took the bold step of inviting the gang to become a part of the family. With a promise to keep them alive and out of jail, the Fattah home became the House of Umoja Boys Town, and initially operated for three years without public or private support.

Conrad Walter Worrill was born on August 15, 1941, in Pasadena , California ; the eldest of two brothers. From early on, Black community life was part of the Worrill home. His mother, Anna Bell, was the first African American to sing in the Pasadena Philharmonic Orchestra and his father, Walter, was a college-educated YMCA director, secretary of the local NAACP branch and one of the leaders of a multiracial group promoting integration. The family regularly hosted meetings on civil rights issues like police hiring. For a time, one of Pasadena 's public pools was open to African Americans just one day a week, then drained and re-filled before re-opening for whites; Walter Worrill helped lead the campaign to integrate it. He and a group of organizers also successfully sued a local restaurant, forcing it to change its policy of not serving blacks. Conrad Worrill, would soon follow suit and become an activist and scholar whose goal would be to advance the cause and concept of African independence and self-determination both in the United States and internationally. |
After moving to Chicago on his ninth birthday, Worrill became serious about athletics. He gained his first racial consciousness through competitive swimming when his black YMCA team faced serious heckling. In 1962, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and shipped to Okinawa , Japan .
While overseas, he read profusely about African-American history, culture and politics. After he returned to Chicago in 1964, Worrill attended George Williams College but became radicalized by the Black Power Movement. After graduating in 1968, a Chicago YMCA hired him as the program director. Worrill earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin . He began teaching at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago in 1976, where he was the coordinator and professor of inner-city studies education. While organizing in 1983 to elect Chicago 's first black mayor, Harold Washington, Worrill co-founded the Task Force for Black Political Empowerment.

As the national chairman of the National Black United Front, Worrill is working aggressively to change the American public school curriculum to be inclusive of the contributions of Africans and African Americans. As part of the fight to win reparations for the American descendants with genocide and human right violations before the Commission on Human Rights, In 2001, he led a 400-member delegation to the U.N. World Conference Against Racism in Durban , South Africa . The delegation presented the commission with a "Declaration of Genocide by the United States Government Against the Black Population in the United States " with 157,000 signatures. Upon returning to the United States , Worrill presented this petition to the United Nations in New York City . Conrad Worrill is also one of the primary organizers of the N'DABA Reparations Movement. |

He writes the syndicated weekly column "Worrill's World," which is widely read in African American newspapers across the country. In August 2002, Worrill organized a national reparations rally attended by thousands. Worrill was appointed Director of the inner-city education for Northwestern Illinois University in 2004.
He is a co-convener of the Millions More Movement (The 10th Anniversary of the Million Man March.) Conrad is an experienced, committed and legendary activist. He is one of the elders in the struggle for Black liberation and self-determination.
