Islamist Rabble Rousing over Imam Luqman Abdullah's Messy Departure

February 4, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - There is an old aphorism which goes "be careful what you wish for, it may come true," or some variation on that theme, which comes to mind observing the chorus of breast beating, wailing and gnashing of teeth which have accompanied the release of the autotopsy of imam Luqman Abdullah.

Abdullah, leader of a radical Islamist separatist group which called itself "the Ummah," [Arabic for the Muslim community] to which he preached a message that Islam should be spread by violent jihad, once reportedly quipping, "Don't carry a gun if you are going to give it to the cops, give them a bullet instead," was killed in Dearborn during a gunfight with various police agencies including local police and at least one FBI SWAT team.

According to the Detroit FBI's initial complaint, Luqman Abdullah (aka Christopher Thomas), age 53, of Detroit, Michigan was charged with 5 felonies, violating, "18 U.S.C. 371 Conspiracy to Commit Federal Crimes, 18 U.S.C. Sale or Receipt of Stolen Goods Transported in Interstate Commerce, 18 U.S.C. 922(d) Providing Firearms or Ammunition to a Person Known to be a Convicted Felon, 18 U.S.C. 931 Possession of Body Armor by a Person Convicted of a Violent Felony and 18 U.S.C. 551 altering or Removing Motor Vehicle Identification Numbers." [source, FBI website, Eleven Members/Associates of Ummah Charged with Federal Violations One Subject Fatally Shot During Arrest, http://detroit.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel09/de102809.htm]

The autopsy documents [go here to view, warning its fairly graphic, http://download.gannett.edgesuite.net/detnews/2010/pdf/0201imam.pdf] 21 bullet wounds to the imam's body, testament to the ferocity of the engagement. The attached toxicology report noted the presence of chlorpheneramine - an antihistamine, dextromethorphan - an antitussive [cough suppressant] and diphenhydramine [generic for Benadryl] also an antihistamine, in Abdullah's blood.

Immediately upon the release of the report, the Islamist apologists hastily declared their availability to a media always eager to pounce on tragic events they can spin into boiler plate narratives suggesting police brutality, over reaction or both.

Two old hands at the blame game were part of the initial press gaggle, the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR, named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest, successful prosecution of Hamas terror funding in U.S. history, U.S. vs. Holy Land Foundation, et al.] and the slightly more taciturn, Muslim Public Affairs Council [MPAC] a group which Daniel Pipes characterizes as having [along with CAIR] impeded,"...counterterrorism efforts and forwarding an Islamist vision of America in particular." [see, The Difference Between CAIR and MPAC, http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2004/07/the-difference-between-cair-and-mpac]

MPAC's statement, delivered by Alejandro Beutel, was typical, craftily worded but still accusatory, "The FBI's tactics and actions in the case of Imam Luqman Abdullah have exacerbated tensions between our communities and law enforcement and undercut the fragile trust needed for effective partnerships to keep America safe...The public deserves answers, which requires a thorough investigation by an independent party." [see, MPAC website, http://www.mpac.org/article.php?id=1024#axzz0eWB6vHK2]

What is confusing about this whole affair is that the imam seemingly got exactly what he desired, a firestorm of a sendoff to the next world via a confrontation with the police, seemingly instigated by him responding to a police order to surrender with a hail of his own bullets directed at the confronting officers and agents.

Some comment has been made regarding the number of wounds to the imam's body, which again is curious. SWAT teams, especially at the level of the FBI often employ weapons with select fire options of either full auto or controlled round bursts [usually three rounds]. In a fire fight such as this, their job is to engage the target until it is subdued, often this results in multiple hits, many of which in themselves might eventually prove to be fatal.

When faced with obvious hostile intent, accompanied by Abdullah's past record of belligerence, it's unreasonable to expect law enforcement to react with anything but overwhelming force to immediately terminate the threat, which is exactly what happened.

The lesson here is that unfortunately for wannabe mujahideen, if you go to war in an urban environment against law enforcement, especially the FBI armed with a hand gun the possibility of ending up like the imam are quite high.

Hence the sturm and drang accompanying the charges critics have lodged against law enforcement in the aftermath of this affair, though long on emotion, lack the requisite kernel of credibility required to make them at all worthy of serious consideration.

As we have noted before, consider the case of the so-called "flying imams," these after-action media friendly campaigns are components of a stealth jihad designed to manipulate, influence and limit the range of options available to those whose job it is to maintain national security, especially through their ability to employ effective counter terror strategies.

Wing-nut Congressman John Conyers' lobbying effort to force the FBI's Civil Rights division [which under Mr. Holder is completely out of control as we detail here, http://www.pipelinenews.org/2009/Unbelievable-45-Holder-Justice-Department-Sues-To-Enforce.html as well as here, http://www.pipelinenews.org/2009/Holders-Politicized-Race-Conscious-DOJ-Team-Busted-Again.html] into a serious review of this matter does not augur well along these lines.
