Beachgoers enjoyed a warm day in Huntington Beach, California to kick off the 2020 Memorial Day weekend. They included a smiling Nidal Sakr and what appeared to be members of his immediate family. However, Sakr should not be lounging out at any beach. Instead, he should either be behind prison bars for threatening President Trump's life or facing a death sentence, himself, for a murder that took place in Egypt, in August 2013. It is well past time for Sakr to face legal justice.

Nidal Mohamed Sakr's strange road to sunny California began with his birth in Providence, Rhode Island, 56 years ago. According to Sakr, during his mother's youth, she carried weapons and ammunition for the Muslim Brotherhood. This no doubt had a profound effect on Sakr, as in his own youth, he would join a Brotherhood terrorist cell operating out of Jordan. He was recruited into the cell by Abdullah Azzam, the future mentor of Osama bin Laden and co-founder of al-Qaeda. Sakr, as well, became personally acquainted with bin Laden.

Much if not all of Sakr's teen years were spent in the Middle East. But in 1990, Sakr was back in the States, taking classes at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where he became President of his school's Muslim Students Association (MSA). In May 1999, Sakr landed a job as adjunct professor at Miami-Dade College. He continued teaching there, until January 2004, when he left Florida for Cairo, Egypt, seemingly not planning to return.

In Egypt, Sakr came to be very involved with the Brotherhood. There, he was an advisor to Brotherhood leadership, and he gave lectures at Brotherhood headquarters. During the Arab Spring in Egypt, Sakr organized rallies for the Brotherhood. Sakr and the Brotherhood soon would reach their goal, as they saw one of their top leaders, Mohamed Morsi, become elected President of Egypt, in June 2012. Sakr barely had time to delight in the victory, though, when Morsi, just one year later, was deposed by Egypt's military and thrown in jail.

Following Morsi's arrest, under the new rule of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Brotherhood became a target. According to Sakr, he was shot at in Egypt's Rabaa Square "for 12 Hours NON STOP." In March 2014, Sakr and his family fled Egypt for the US border, where Sakr was handcuffed and detained for six hours, then released. Apparently, Sakr was involved in some aggression of his own, because less than a week after arriving in the US, he was sentenced to death in Egypt, for the murder of a policeman.

Sakr's time in the US, since his detention at the border, has been filled with irrational statements of violence and bigotry. Sakr has used social media as a vehicle to get these sick and dangerous messages out to the public.

In May 2018, Sakr wrote, "So called 'israeli CANCER' MUST BE OBLITERATED AND IT WILL BE. LONG LIVE ALL PALESTINE FROM RIVER TO SEA. INSHAALLAH COMING HOME SOON TO OUR BELOVED HOMELAND." In August 2016, he wrote, "MAKE NO MISTAKE!! I'm Muslim Palestinian American who'll never rest till 'Israel' is off the map." And in July 2017, he called for an end to the Jews, themselves, tweeting, "We will never eliminate the Jews in the name of the Arabs; we will not take them down except in the name of Islam."

In October 2017, Sakr called for the killing of President Trump, tweeting, "EXECUTE SOB TRAITOR Donald Trump." The same day, he tweeted, "Donald Trump, You Are TOAST… I GUARANTEE IT." In September 2017, Sakr wrote on Facebook, "FACTS ARE FACTS. Patriotic Americans Will Keep After SOB Donald Trump Until We Nail His ass. YOU WATCH!!" In February 2017, he warned Trump, "U come to ISLAM Or ISLAM WILL COME TO YOU." And in January 2020, he tweeted that President Trump "deserves much worse than death."

Sakr has also leveled threats at the US, which he refers to as "evil America" and the "largest Global Terrorist." In December 2017, he tweeted, "Down with America!!!" In November 2017, he tweeted, "Jihad will topple all American dogs."

It is a crime to threaten the President of the United States. Indeed, last month a 36-year-old man from Texas, Mickael Gedlu, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for threatening to assassinate President Trump.

Is saying that President Trump should be "executed" and that he is "toast" not threats? Of course, they are. And they were made by a man who was part of a terrorist cell, who is linked with the founders of al-Qaeda, who has called for the extermination of Jews, and who is wanted for murder. All it will take is Sakr or one of his Muslim Brotherhood associates to carry out this vile act.

Sakr can place photos of himself having fun with his family at the beach and laying out poolside on a recliner, as he did during Memorial Day weekend, but the crimes he has done – threatening the President and (allegedly) murdering a police officer – cannot be undone. His past must catch up to him, if justice is to be served.
