Update: Ahmad Khan Rahami Arrested

An F.B.I. investigation near the last known residence of Ahmad Khan Rahami, who is being sought in connection with the bombing in Manhattan on Saturday night.

The police on Monday took into custody the man they believed to be behind the bombing in Manhattan over the weekend, according to law enforcement officials.

The dramatic arrest of the man, Ahmad Khan Rahami, came after the police issued a cellphone alert to millions of residents in the area telling them to be on the lookout for the suspect, who was described as "armed and dangerous."..."We have a lot to connect him to the Seaside Heights device, to the 27th Street device, to the 23rd Street device," the official added. "And in all likelihood the Elizabeth train station device which is a half-mile from his residence...

The man believed to be responsible for the explosion in Manhattan on Saturday night and an earlier bombing in New Jersey, Ahmad Khan Rahami, was taken into custody on Monday after he was wounded by gunfire in an encounter with the police, according to law enforcement officials.http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/20/nyregion/nyc-nj-explosions-ahmad-khan-rahami.html?_r=0

...Two officers were wounded in the gun battle but were not believed to have been seriously hurt, authorities said.

Linden Mayor Derek Armstead said that the owner of a bar reported someone asleep in the doorway of his establishment. A police officer went to investigate and recognized the man as Rahami, police and the mayor said.

Rahami pulled a gun and shot the officer who was wearing a bulletproof vest in the torso, and more officers joined the gun battle and brought Rahami down, police Capt. James Sarnicki said.

The arrest came just hours after police issued a bulletin and photo of Rahami, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan with an address in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Authorities said the blasts were looking increasingly like an act of terrorism with a foreign connection...

Police in the US are conducting a search for Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, wanted on suspicion of planting the bomb that exploded in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood Saturday night. 29 people were wounded as a result of the blast.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio warned that the wanted terrorist may be "armed and dangerous."

Sources within US law enforcement have reported that a terror cell is most likely behind yesterday's explosions in New York and New Jersey.

The sources told CNN that the joint investigation of the explosions led authorities to open a search for several individuals who are suspects in the case.

New York residents received a notification on their phones reading: "WANTED: Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28-year-old male. See media for pic. Call 9-1-1 if seen."

Early Monday morning a bomb exploded near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey, as it was being disarmed by a robot. Four more explosive devices were found and disarmed at the scene. There were no casualties.

After the explosion in Manhattan on Saturday, a pressure cooker connected to a cellphone was found nearby. Police called for residents in the area to stay away from windows facing toward the street.

In a separate terror incident, a man stabbed 8 people in a shopping mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota. ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the terrorist was acting in the name of the group.

5 in custody in connection with Manhattan bombing

Five men have been taken into custody in connection with a bombing in Manhattan Saturday night that left 29 people injured, federal investigators said on Monday.

While the FBI said no one has yet been charged in the case, authorities claim a "vehicle of interest" was stopped on Sunday, and five men detained for questioning.

Witnesses say heavily armed police forces had swarmed around a vehicle in Brooklyn Sunday night near Verrazano Bridge.

Investigators say the bomb set off in Saturday night's attack contained Tannerite, an explosive material used in target practice and widely available. A second explosion a pipe bomb in New Jersey, did not use Tannerite, police said.

Authorities say the Manhattan bombing may be tied to the New Jersey explosion and a stash of explosives discovered in the Garden State on Sunday, though no conclusive link had yet been established.

Cellular phones were found near the sites of both explosions, suggesting they may have been used to detonate the charges.
