Teen Wounded in Hamas Car Attack Dies

17-year-old grandson of Shas Council of Torah Sages rabbi becomes second fatality from Jerusalem car attack on Wednesday. By Ari Yashar First Publish: 11/7/2014, 7:17 AM

A second fatality has arisen from the lethal car attack committed by a Hamas terrorist in Jerusalem this Wednesday.

Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital has announced that Shalom Ba'adani hy'd, a 17-year-old teen yeshiva student, has died of the critical wounds he sustained in the attack at the Shimon Hatzadik light rail station.

Ba'adani is the grandson of Rabbi Shimon Ba'adani, a member of the Shas Council of Torah Sages, and therefore Shas party members were among his visitors in the hospital according to reports.

It took several hours to identify Ba'adani on Wednesday, a process that eventually was completed thanks to his cell phone being found at the scene of the attack. According to his parents, Ba'adani was bicycling to the Kotel (Western Wall) when the attack occurred.

The hospital statement added that another wounded patient continues to receive treatment after being hospitalized in moderate to critical condition and fully conscious.

The attack killed Border Patrol captain superintendent Jadan Assad, a Druze officer who was buried on Thursday.

After driving his large white van into the station on Wednesday, Hamas terrorist Ibrahim al-Akari of the Shuafat neighborhood of Jerusalem got out of the car and attacked passersby with a metal rod until being shot dead by security forces.

Al-Akari's brother Musa was reportedly released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit deal and expelled from Israel, a fact that raised suspicions the attack was planned or financed with aid from abroad.

Hamas has strongly backed the car attack, and so has its "moderate" unity partner Fatah, the faction of Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Abbas's party on Wednesday and Thursday launched a barrage of cartoons and posts on its official Facebook pages demanding more car attacks, including one post simply reading "run over, friend, run over the foreign settler!"

The posts were revealed by Palestinian Media Watch, which documented how Abbas last month, just weeks before the recent series of lethal attacks, called to prevent Jews "defiling" the Temple Mount by "all means necessary" in an uncanny echo of Arafat's call for the 2000 Second Intifada. Abbas's call for terror was given heavy rotation on official PA TV.
