Oklahoma Beheader's Mosque Tied To Radical Islamist Imam Claims They Are Not Radical - Blames FOX News For Linkage

October 20, 2014

"Suhaib Webb, an Imam with ties to former Al Qaeda mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki, had also previously been the leader of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, which had been attended by Alton Nolen -- the man who on Thursday beheaded a former coworker after recently converting to Islam, Breitbart News has learned. Webb now serves as Imam of the sister organization of the mosque attended by Boston Marathon bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Imam Suhaib Webb has a history of ties to radicalism..."http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2014/09/26/OKC-Killer-Linked-Through-Imam-to-Al-Qaeda-Leader-Awlaki

A Response to Fox News Allegations Against the Islamic Society of Greater OKC and Imam Suhaib Webb

In this difficult and challenging time for Oklahomans, the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City (ISGOC) continues to send our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the victims and families of last week's tragic murder in Moore, OK. We condemn this atrocity and we stand with our fellow... Oklahomans in calling for justice.

As we join our fellow Oklahomans in shock at the murder, ISGOC is troubled to find that some irresponsible entities are attempting to link the perpetrator's outrages to our leadership and institution.

As one example, on the evening of October 1, 2014, an anonymous guest on Fox News Channel's Kelly Files made false allegations against ISGOC and its past and current leadership.

Anonymous speakers making uncorroborated allegations against minority communities is as un-American as it gets. We urge Fox News to investigate this significant lapse in journalistic integrity.

The anonymous speaker claimed that he was last in our institution in 2011 at the request of law enforcement. We question why Kelly did not note that no allegations of misdoing have ever been levelled at our institution by any law enforcement entity.

Each and every allegation made against the ISGOC is false.

The Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, currently led by Senior Imam Imad Enchassi, is an institution in good standing in our city and state. We are proud of our positive contributions to Oklahoma. This year alone, as a result of these contributions, Imam Enchassi has received awards from the Dialogue Institute of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice.

Suhaib Webb was the Imam of ISGOC from 1998 until 2001. During his time and in his subsequent work elsewhere, he preached Islam's message of peace, compassion, mercy, love, and understanding.

While serving as the Imam for ISGOC, Webb raised approximately $25,000 from his congregation for one of the firefighters that lost their life on 9/11. He also took groups of volunteers to serve the victims of the 1999 tornadoes in Oklahoma. He continues to this day to be a force against violent extremism, as does the ISGOC.
