Voice Of Sanity From Israeli Defense Minister Ya'alon - "We Are Not Happy With Prisoner Releases"

December 28, 2013

December 26, 2013 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Caught in the jaws of an unlikely pincer maneuver - between rioting Hamas supporters in Judea and Samaria [Palestine doesn't exist, next question?] and Israelis protesting against continued prisoner releases - Israel's Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon appears to have finally stated what has been obvious to many for a very long time; releasing Islamic terrorists in exchange for continued sham peace negotiations with Fatah is not only counter-productive, it's provocative.

"'...Judea and Samaria has not been quiet," he stated. "We call this an 'atmosphere of terror' and it is due to the Palestinian Authority's incitement against Israel. The statistics speak for themselves: in 2012 we saw a decline in terror attacks, but in the past several months we have seen a rise in terror attacks. This happens every time issues between Israel and the Palestinian Authority are addressed," Ya'alon concluded. "[Negotiations] are a result of the incitement, and it has everything to do with the political process...'" [source, Tova Dvorin , Ya'alon: Government Reconsidering Prisoner Release]

This practice is provocative because if there is one thing all sides can agree upon in this conflict, it's that Muslim fanatics understand only one thing - a guaranteed, brutal and disproportionate military response to acts of savagery.

Of course given the nature of the Shari'a based ideology of Islamic religious warfare, the mujahideen remain quiescent for only as long as it takes them to regroup, re-arm and replace one set of pawns with another. Call it defensive offense if you will; for every Israeli casualty, dozens or tens of dozens of bad guys should get their chance to meet Allah.

Until recently few publicly objected to freeing these killers, but the recent spate of terrorist attacks has changed the political landscape, especially now that the country's peace movement is dead.

Those protesting the next planned release include next of kin and other relatives of those murdered by the jihadists.

"...Or-Tal Tamam, niece of Moshe Tamam (z"l) who was murdered by terrorists during his military service, cut her classes for the day to protest. "I will not sit quietly and not sleep at night while my country is losing its moral compass," said Tamam to Arutz Sheva. "I do not sleep at night - so Netanyahu will not sleep, either. I will stay here at least until next week and will continue to do everything to stop the release of terrorists." [source, Tova Dvorin, Protest Against Prisoner Release Outside Prime Minister's House, Arutz Sheva]

Ya'alon's reference to a rising tide of violence doesn't really do justice to the facts on the ground - over a period of 24 hours, a bus was bombed in Bat Yam, a civilian was killed by a member of the Popular Resistance Committees on the Gaza border and a law enforcement officer was stabbed at a check point in the village of Adam, which is near Jerusalem.

Rather than a one-time response calculated to mollify angry Israeli protesters [not to mention a generally hostile Western press which invariably sides with the so-called "Palestinians"] we hope that Ya'alon's questioning of the country's prisoner release policy results in the Israeli government rejecting the strategy which is, after all, simply appeasement pretending to be humanitarianism.

Taken to its natural conclusion, this development can't be pleasing to the Obama administration which has been pushing renewed peace talks. If that is the case, it brought this situation upon itself with Israel rightly reasoning that with Team Obama stabbing it in the back while making nice with Iran, the administration has lost whatever leverage it had with the Netanyahu government.

At its core, the prisoner release program is much like feeding your friends to the crocodile, hoping he is satiated before he turns his attention to you.
