January 7, 2012

January 6, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - According to Iran's official Fars News Agency, the country plans to commence new war games in the Straits of Hormuz next month.

The announcement was made by Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps Navy.

Iran ended a 10 day period of well-publicized war games last Monday, but Fadavi suggested that the upcoming exercises, "...would be "different" from previous ones. He did not elaborate..." [source, http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9007270592]

Nearly half of the world oil travels through this historically significant squeeze point and Iran's recent blustering activity there, if nothing else, demonstrates how dependent the West is on oil coming from Islamist regimes.

The news accompanied a related announcement in which Ahmad Qalebani, who leads Iran's national oil company, stated ambitious plans to quadruple the country's offshore oil drilling capacity, claiming that "...Iran plans to increase the number of its drilling rigs operating in onshore and offshore oilfields by 36 units to reach 134 units by March 2014." At the same time Qalabani bragged that Iran's oil technology has become so sophisticated that the country will engage in a major operation to market its newly developed expertise to the world's oil producers.
