Marshall Breger VP of Conservative Jewish Think Tank Participates on Panel With Imam Magid of ISNA

November 7, 2011

" Marshall Breger, professor of international law, stated, "Anyone hearing Imam Magid's forceful and impassioned call for mutual compassion and tolerance would be hard pressed to stick to the old canard that there are no Muslim partners for dialogue."

MIM: Imam Mohamed Magid is the president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) which was an unindicted co conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas funding trial. He recently took part in an interfaith panel to discuss the similiarities between Islamic and Jewish law which included Marshall Breger, the vice president of the Jewish Policy Center.

Breger also organised a trip to the European death camps for Muslim leaders which included radical Islamists such as Muzamil Siddiqi the chairman of the Figh Council, Mohamed Magid president of ISNA, Yasir Qadhi Dean of Academics at the radical Al Magrib Institute and Suhaib Webb a convert to Islam who is a regularly featured speaker at Islamist events.

In one of Siddiqi's speeches he proclaimed that:

"America has to learn, if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come. Do you remember that? If you continue doing injustice, the wrath of God will come."http://www.forward.com/articles/130013/

Yasir Qadhi is a notorious antisemite:

"Sheikh Yasir Qadhi has previously denied the
Holocaust, claimed that Jews want to destroy Muslims, and called all non-Muslims
(including Jews and Christians) a "spiritually filthy substance" whose lives and property
hold no value and are forfeit to Muslims during Jihad." http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/8985

"In the summer 2007 Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) trial (which looked into evidence of HLF's fundraising on behalf of Hamas), the U.S. government released a list of approximately 300 of HLF's "unindicted co-conspirators" and "joint venturers." Among the unindicted co-conspirators were groups such as ISNA, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Hamas, INFOCOM, the Islamic Association for Palestine, the Muslim Arab Youth Association, the United Association for Studies and Research, and the North American Islamic Trust. The list also included many individuals affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and/or Hamas. Among these were Omar Ahmad, Abdurahman Alamoudi, Yousef al-Qaradawi, Abdallah Azzam, Jamal Badawi, Mohammad Jaghlit, Mousa Abu Marzook, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, and Ahmed Yassin." http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/printgroupProfile.asp?grpid=6178

MIM: Imam Magid is a faux moderate who uses interfaith as a tool for dawa (Islamic proseltylisation). ISNA is the largest Saudi funded dawa organisation in North America. This conference was a disingenuous attempt to equate Jewish law (halacha) with Islamic sharia ignoring aspects of Islamic law like punishment for example, which calls for the execution of apostates, stoning to death of adulterers and homosexuals and the amputation of limbs.

"Jewish Law and Catholic Canon Law
Many who defend rulings that follow Islamic doctrine or sharia make spurious comparisons to Jewish law and Catholic Canon law. These comparisons are disingenuous because the distinctions couldn't be more striking between sharia and the laws of Jews and Catholics.

Islamic law or sharia is supremacist and triumphalist. The Koran commands Muslims to change secular laws to conform to sharia or to impose sharia worldwide. In Muslim countries, the mosque is both the state and the court. Disobeying sharia can be punished by flogging or death.

By contrast, Jewish (Halacha) and Catholic Canon laws are never imposed even for Jews and Catholics, respectively. Under Jewish law and Canon law, any two parties in a dispute can choose to seek and follow a decision rendered by a religious court, but they are always free to pursue secular redress. In fact, Jews and Catholics are required to follow secular law and are under no obligation whatsoever to abide by Jewish or Catholic Church doctrine. The dictum in Jewish law of "Dina d'malchuta dina" translates to "the law of the land is law" and recognizes non-Jewish laws and non-Jewish legal jurisdiction as binding on Jewish citizens. Jewish law does not operate under a supremacist power structure like Islamic doctrine. It is unenforceable, and it is not a replacement for constitutional law."...Clearly, sharia is at odds with everything enshrined in our Constitution to honor and preserve individual liberties and freedom. Sharia stands in opposition to equal protection under the law for both sexes, all religions, all races, and all ethnicities. Ultimately, it replaces the constitution with the objective of submitting to Allah's law, which denies freedom, equality, tolerance, and justice.

According to Discover the Networks:

Established in 1981 by the Saudi-funded Muslim Students' Association of the U.S. and Canada (MSA), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) calls itself the largest Muslim organization on the continent. ISNA was created by MSA with the help of one of Palestinian Islamic Jihad's founding students, Sami Al-Arian. Another noteworthy founding member of ISNA was Mahboob Khan...Islam scholar Stephen Schwartz describes ISNA as "one of the chief conduits through which the radical Saudi form of Islam passes into the United States."...

According to terrorism expert Steven Emerson, ISNA "is a radical group hiding under a false veneer of moderation"; "convenes annual conferences where Islamist militants have been given a platform to incite violence and promote hatred" (for instance, al Qaeda supporter and PLO official Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi was invited to speak at an ISNA conference); has held fundraisers for terrorists (after Hamas leader Mousa Marzook was arrested and eventually deported in 1997, ISNA raised money for his defense); has condemned the U.S. government's post-9/11 seizure of Hamas' and Palestinian Islamic Jihad's financial assets; and publishes a bi-monthly magazine, Islamic Horizons, that "often champions militant Islamist doctrine." ...I

SNA was named in a May 1991 Muslim Brotherhood document -- titled "An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America" -- as one of the Brotherhood's 29 likeminded "organizations of our friends" that shared the common goal of destroying America and turning it into a Muslim nation. These "friends" were identified by the Brotherhood as groups that could help teach Muslims "that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable house by their hands ... so that ... God's religion [Islam] is made victorious over all other religions."

He is vice president of the Jewish Policy Center, a Jewish conservative think . The JPC claims that their organisation "strongly supports the global war against Islamic extremism."

"The Jewish Policy Center, a not-for-profit 501 (C)(3) think tank, provides scholarly perspectives on foreign and domestic policies that impact the Jewish community in the United States, and the broader American public.

The JPC asserts that Jewish Americans can no longer afford to stubbornly hold on to outdated ideas of the past. This includes optimism over misguided Middle East peace deals, appeasement of dictators, and unrealistic hopes that dangerous realities in the Middle East might simply change without tougher U.S. policies.

As such, the JPC strongly supports the global war against Islamic extremism..." http://www.jewishpolicycenter.org/about.php

Last weekend, ISNA President Imam Mohamed Magid gathered with Jewish and Muslim scholars, representing an incredibly diverse range of theological perspectives, to openly discuss both the Islamic and Jewish legal systems, Shariah and Halacha, and de-bunk common myths about the faith groups that can feed both Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism.

The diverse range of scholars from the faith communities shared how they interpret religious texts, particularly religious law, and allowed for very candid dialogue between the two faiths and between the various leaders within each faith. Marshall Breger, professor of international law, stated, "Anyone hearing Imam Magid's forceful and impassioned call for mutual compassion and tolerance would be hard pressed to stick to the old canard that there are no Muslim partners for dialogue."
