June 29, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Onta Williams, James Chromitie, and David Williams, who engaged in a conspiracy to bomb the Riverdale Temple in the Bronx, the Riverdale Jewish Center and to shoot down military aircraft with Stinger missiles, received what amounts to a slap on the wrist today in Manhattan Dist. Court, as judge Coleen McMahon [a Clinton appointee, 1998] imposed the minimum sentence of 25 years. Laguerre Payen, the fourth defendant, will be sentenced after a psychiatric evaluation.
Government prosecutors had demanded life sentences because of the serious nature of the case which the plotters thought involved blowing up the Jewish sites with extraordinarily powerful IEDs containing 30 lbs each of the plastic explosive C-4 and using surface to air Stinger missiles to bring down the military jets.
The three believed they were working with Jaish-e-Mohammad [the "Army of Mohammed"] a designated Foreign Terrorist Group based in Pakistan.
The outline of the plot was detailed in an FBI statement, "In June 2008, an informant working with the FBI was approached by Chromitie in Newburgh, New York. Chromitie explained to the informant that his parents had lived in Afghanistan and that he was upset about the war there. Chromitie expressed interest in returning to Afghanistan and said that if he were to die a martyr, he would go to "paradise." He also expressed an interest in doing "something to America." The following month, Chromitie and the informant discussed Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistan-based designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, with which the informant claimed to be involved.
