Muslim Clerics Demand Jordan Shut Night Clubs

February 16 2011- Militant Islam Monitor-Jordan which is considered a "moderate" Arab state and an "ally" of the U.S. and Israel is experiencing a vocal resurgence of Islamism and Islamists.

A group of 106 Jordanian clerics and others have issued a statement saying that Jordan must close all night clubs and combat prostitution. According to AFP:

The statement also mentioned two clubs which are situated in Mecca and Medina streets calling their presence there "insulting to Islam and Muslims" and demanded a halt to prostitution and a closing of brothels and that the government implement laws "that fight all anti-Islamic and unethical acts which destroy our society,"

Recently the Jordanian Justice Minister Hussein Mjali called for the release of a terrorist who shot and killed 7 Israeli school girls in 1997 and referred to the killer as a "hero".Mjali was his defense lawyer. Mjali became Justice Minister after the government was changed as a preemptive step to prevent the kind of upheaval taking place in Egypt and the rest of the Middle East.
