May 12, 2010

May 11, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - On May 11, the David Horowitz Freedom Center of Philadelphia [DHFC] hosted Wafa Sultan at the Union League in Philadelphia. Wafa Sultan is an ex-Muslim and author of the book, "A God Who Hates."

Craig Snider, the director of the DHFC in Philadelphia organized the event.

Dr. Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, introduced Dr. Sultan. In endorsing her book he wrote, "Wafa Sultan paints a scorching, unforgettable portrait of Syrian Muslim society, especially the degradation of its women, and lyrically appreciates her adopted American homeland, which she calls 'the land of dreams.' But she also worries that Middle East customs are encroaching on the West and writes with passion to awaken Americans to a menace they barely recognize, much less fear."

During introductory remarks, Dr. Pipes recounted how Sultan had first questioned Islam after she saw a professor at her medical school in Syria murdered by members of the Muslim Brotherhood who were shouting Allahu Akhbar! This prompted her to look deeper into Islam. After immigrating to America she began writing articles about Islam especially it's misogynist tendencies. Her writings "caught the eye" of producers at Al Jazeera and she was catapulted into prominence after a debate with a sheik in which she, according to Pipes, "...unapologetically said things that are just not said...in public...and even less said by a Muslim and by a woman."

As related by Pipes, during the debate with the sheik among the questions posed was if we are witnessing a clash of civilizations, to which Sultan replied, "No, we are witnessing the clash of something more fundamental, it is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the middle ages and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century."

Dr. Sultan who lives under constant death threats, stated that "world and current events support what I say...Since my arrival in the United States I have held the conviction that I can finally speak freely about Islam and about Muslims." She went on to warn that Muslims plan to implement Shari'a either by violent jihad or stealth jihad.

She also spoke about the mosque being built two blocks from the site of the World Trade Center and about the head of the mosque Feisal Abdul Rauf. Sultan explained how the establishment of a mosque was a victory for Shari'a , quoting Rauf as, "Seven centuries before the Declaration of Independence was written Shari'a law was intended to protect life, religion, property, family and mental well-being, this is why I am sure that America is in fact a Shari'a compliant state."

Sultan also noted that Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square bomber wannabe and Feisal Rauf, "were two sides of the same coin," and that Muslims have "declared war on non-Muslims."

Citing the "brutal treatment" of women under Islam, she related that her book was dedicated to "her beloved niece" who had committed suicide by setting herself on fire to avoid an arranged marriage.

Sultan also declared that most Muslims who adhere to Shari'a cannot be loyal to the Constitution and that, "is crucial to study the political ideology of Islam." She concluded, saying "we must have the courage and commitment to act...if freedom is to survive."
