Belgium wants to revoke nationality of terrorists

In Flemish Gent seven procedures are ongoing to revoke Belgian nationality from people who had another nationality at birth. België wil terroristen nationaliteit afnemen

In het Vlaamse Gent lopen zeven procedures om Belgen die bij hun geboorte een andere nationaliteit hadden, de Belgische nationaliteit af te nemen. Dit op grond van„ernstige tekortkomingen aan de plichten van een Belg." Het gaat hierbij onder meer om de in Marokko tot levenslang veroordeelde Abdelkader Belliraj. Dat heeft Dominique Debrauwere, woordvoerder van justitie in Gent donderdag gezegd. Hij reageert hiermee op berichten in Vlaamse kranten dat België van plan is de Belgische nationaliteit af te nemen van Mohamed Reha (22) die in Marokko is geboren, maar sinds 1999 de Belgische nationaliteit bezit. Hij is begin vorig jaar in Marokko tot tien jaar cel veroordeeld wegens terroristische activiteiten. Zijn neef Ismaïl Akhnik, die in Nederland vastzit, maakte deel uit van de Hofstadgroep.
