The Interfaith Youth Core directed by Eboo Patel claims its aim is to "promote mutual respect and pluralism among young people..." Then why did self proclaimed interfaith guru (viewed by many as a moderate messiah) Eboo Patel emcee at the 2007 annual event of The Council on American Islamic Relations a Saudi funded front group for Hamas and unindicted co-conspirator in the Holyland Foundation Hamas funding trial? CAIR is also a defendant in a 9/11 terrorism lawsuit which states that:

86. Council on American Islamic Relations and CAIR Canada (collectively, CAIR), have aided, abetted, and materially sponsored and al Qaeda and international terrorism. CAIR is an outgrowth of the Hamas front group the Islamic Association of Palestine. The FBI's former associate director in charge of Investigative and Counter-Intelligence Operations described the Islamic Association of Palestine as an organization that has directly supported Hamas military goals and is a front organization for Hamas that engages in propaganda for Islamic militants. It has produced videotapes that are very hate-filled, full of vehement propaganda. It is an organization that has supported direct confrontation.

87. CAIR and CAIR-Canada have, since their inception, been part of the criminal conspiracy of radical Islamic terrorism. These organizations play a unique role in the terrorist network. They emanate from the notorious HAMAS terrorist organization and like so many of the terrorism facilitating charities named and indicted by the United States government they are engaged in fund raising under the guise of assisting humanitarian causes they are, in reality, a key player in international terrorism. The unique role played by CAIR and CAIR-Canada is to manipulate the legal systems of the United States and Canada in a manner that allows them to silence critics, analysts, commentators, media organizations, and government officials by leveling false charges of discrimination, libel, slander and defamation. In addition, both organizations have actively sought to hamper governmental anti-terrorism efforts by direct propaganda activities aimed at police, first-responders, and intelligence agencies through so-called sensitivity training. Their goal is to create as much self-doubt, hesitation, fear of name-calling, and litigation within police departments and intelligence agencies as possible so as to render such authorities ineffective in pursuing international and domestic terrorist entities.

88. The role of CAIR and CAIR-Canada is to wage PSYOPS (psychological warfare) and disinformation activities on behalf of Whabbi-based [Wahhabi-based, DP] Islamic terrorists throughout North America. They are the intellectual "shock troops" of Islamic terrorism. In the years and months leading up to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 these organizations were very effective in helping to ensure that North American law enforcement and intelligence officials were sufficiently deaf, dumb, and blind to help pave the way for the attacks on the United States. The role played by these entities is an absolutely essential part of the mix of forces arrayed against the United States as they help soften-up targeted countries so as to facilitate and enhance the likelihood for a successful attack. http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2004/12/cair-named-as-a-defendant-in-911-terror.html

MIM: Patel doesn't blame radical Islamists for the 9/11 attacks, but for "spooking us".According to Patel terrorism is a "macabre magic intended to create the illusion of enemies everywhere."

"Religion writer Eboo Patel blames radical Islamists, and 9/11 for spooking us. "Terrorism," Patel wrote in Slate, "is more than heinous murder and guerrilla theater. It is a kind of macabre magic intended to create the illusion of enemies everywhere." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ucru/20080604/cm_ucru/theeword

MIM: Patel plays both sides as the kumbaya moderate who runs a da'wa front under the guise of the Interfaith Youth Core. Interfaith is one of the most favored islamist tactics used to sugarcoat da'wa in order to lure non Muslims with a "more in common then we think" feel good dynamic to bring them into contact with Islam. His participation in the CAIR annual event shows he is a stealth Islamist .http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/2860

Dr. Eboo Patel, Founder and Executive Director of Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC)

CAIR-Chicago Executive Director (Ahmed Rehad with Iboo Patel) thanks staff, volunteers, supporters, and guests

Dr. Eboo Patel, event emcee and Executive Director of the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), greets Professor David Cole

-------------------------------------

MIM: IFYC director Iboo Patel counts radical Islamists Hamza Yusuf and Imam Zaid Shakir as his heroes.

"I talked about many of my Muslim heroes, scholars and activists like Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and Imam Zaid Shakir who have articulated visions of a world where people from different backgrounds come together in positive ways." http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/eboo_patel/2008/03/the_spell_of_islamophobia.html

MIM:For anyone who needs clearer guidance about a "world where people from different backgrounds come together in positive ways"Imam Zaid Shakir has made a CD to clarify the difference between Jihad and misguided infidel concept of terrorism, which according to him does not exist in Islam.

"The enemies of Islam have linked [Jihad and Terrorism] together as far as we Muslims are concerned, by trying to make one synonymous with the other. They say that Jihad is irresponsible, random, senseless, violence, and terrorism is Jihad... The two are not synonymous; they can't be synonymous." -- Imam Zaid Shakir

Among the topics on the CD are:

-If the enemies of Islam attack Muslim civilians, can we attack non-Muslim civilians?
-What is the role of Muslims living amongst non-Muslims in the West?
-Jihad and terrorism, objective or subjective?
-What is the meaning of the word Jihad?
-Are we obliged to stay in the West?
-Who sanctions Jihad?
-World Trade Center Bombing!
-Hijacking Airplanes!
-Should we vote?
-Hijra or Jihad?

MIM: Patel took part in a Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow conference sponsored by the ASMA Society and was on a panel which was moderated by Ahmed Younis of the Muslim Public Affairs Council.

The participants on the panel were Imam Rasheed, Precious Muhammed (Imam W.D. Muhammed's community), Behrooz Karjoovary (sufi), Samina Ali (shi'ia), Ahmed Nassef (progressive), Eboo Patel (Ismaili) and Asif Padela (Sunni). Imam Feisal was a respondent, and the panel was moderated by Ahmed Younis of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. http://www.asmasociety.org/religion/mlt_04retreat.html

MIM: Dr.Daniel Pipes summed up the intent of MPAC in his blog "MPAC's True Views"

"Its goal, we learn, is not to promote American interests but to "reflect the sentiment of Muslims worldwide" to Americans. Or, because Muslims have many different views and MPAC has one specific view, a more accurate formulation would be, "reflect the sentiment of Islamists worldwide" to Americans." http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2004/06/mpacs-true-views.html

MIM: An attendee at an IFYC conference wrote this in response to Patel's article "Smearing Muslims".

realfacts:

The Truth about Eboo Patel

I attended the Interfaith Youth Core conference in October of 2007. This conference was lead by Eboo Patel, and I was very excited about it. That is, until the political agenda became very clear. The conference centered on the superiority of Islam.
Every "interfaith" group or event carried this message. The keynote speaker was an Islamic convert, the interfaith prayer room was covered with Islamic prayer rugs, the keynote professors, one a Muslim convert, from the University of Chicago, claimed that there was no such thing or threat of "Islamofascism"
Eboo's opening address talked about the faith line. He created this idea that there were 2 types of people, interfaith and fundamentalists.
The implied message was that anyone who disagreed with Eboo and the conference agenda was a fundamentalist.
The last event I attended was a panel of Jewish activists that were facilitating meetings with leaders of Hamas. To portray any of these leaders as "spiritual" guides with only a hard-line approach, is simply lies. No one questioned any of these programs because they were under this facade of "interfaith."
I found the entire event very disturbing. The next month, I received Eboo's journal, "The Review of Faith and International Politics." Same agenda. The topics included the weakness of Zionism, convincing Evangelicals not to support Israel, and extremism in Judaism.
Patel even has blog post denouncing Ayaa Hirsi Ali as a money-grubbing capitalist! Well, at least she escaped the "infidel" charge. Quite a step up. Women are now not allowed to question Islam because they want to make money through the medium of selling books.
Daniel Pipes is a scholar who is highlighting the true activities of "moderates" to allow the public to decide. In the USA we have transparency, and if you want to call that a smear, I am truly questioning which side you are on, Mr. Patel. http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/eboo_patel/2008/05/smearing_muslims/all_comments.html

---------------------------------

MIM: Patel uses pluralism as a synonym for Islam claiming as Islamists do that "it is the greatest opportunity for humanity."

VALENTE: Patel says he was deeply disturbed by the fact that the 9/11 terrorists were young men and that the suicide bombers in the Middle East and elsewhere are also young. He sees the world dividing along a "faith line" between what he calls pluralists and religious totalitarians.

Dr. PATEL: Only the smallest part of humanity wishes and acts upon the destruction of others. The pluralists are far larger. Those of us who believe in a world where we live together, we're far larger. The problem is we haven't made our case compelling across the world yet. What we pluralists have to do is say to the people standing on the faith line, particularly the young ones, no. Pluralism is the wish of the creator. It is the greatest opportunity for humanity.http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/week1033/profile.html

-------------------------------------------

MIM: The IFYC will be partnering with Tony Blair's new Blair Faith Foundation. According to an article by Patel:

The interfaith movement has lacked what the environmental movement got in 2000 – the presence of a serious global leader willing to engage a serious issue in a serious way: framing debate, galvanizing energy, generating resources, pointing to a major win and convincing the world that we can get there.

Until now.

In two eloquent and important speeches - the first was a month ago in London and the second just last week in New York - Tony Blair articulated why he is committing a good part of the rest of his life to being that figure.

When I met with Blair in Chicago a few months ago, I was struck by the depth of his commitment to the issue, the scope of his vision and the concrete plans for his institution, the Tony Blair Faith Foundation....

Blair will teach a course on Faith and Globalization at Yale University. There are plans for educational material on the intersection of religious devotion and religious diversity, meant for distribution everywhere from corporations to teenagers (through web-based technologies). The Interfaith Youth Core is partnering with the Blair Faith Foundation (and Malaria No More) to bring faith communities together to end malaria in the next 5 – 10 years. http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/eboo_patel/2008/06/the_tony_blair_faith_foundatio.html#more

MIM: The Interfaith Youth Core in their own words.

http://www.ifyc.org/about_core

builds mutual respect and pluralism among young people from different religious traditions by empowering them to work together to serve others.
We are the core of the larger movement of people in the world who are promoting religious pluralism. As the core, our role is to provide resources, network, and catalyze the corps of people who are actively engaged in this work in their communities, and provide a platform to showcase their work to the rest of the world.

There are millions of religious young people in the world interacting with greater frequency. That interaction tends either toward conflict or cooperation. Where so many of these interactions tend towards conflict, the Interfaith Youth Core aims to introduce a new relationship, one that is about mutual respect and religious pluralism. Instead of focusing a dialogue on political or theological differences, we build relationships on the values that we share, such as hospitality and caring for the Earth, and how we can live out those values together to contribute to the betterment of our community.

The Interfaith Youth Core is creating these relationships across the world by inspiring, networking, and resourcing young people, who are the leaders of this movement. We provide young people and the institutions that support them with leadership training, project resources and a connection to a broader movement.

MIM: Kareem Irfan the head of the Council of Islamic Organisations of Greater Chicago is on the IYC board of directors. Irfan justified the beheadings of Paul Johnson and Nicholas Berg calling them "A primordial sense of retaliation and revenge". For more on Kareem Irfan and the CIOCG's terror funding connections see: http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/177

MIM: More on Kareem Irfan radical Islamist ties and da'wa agenda:

Bernardin Center advisory board member Kareem Irfan is the chairman of the Council for Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago [CIOGC] and a sits on the national board of the Islamic Society of North America. When asked in 2002 by CNN whether he regretted giving $5,000 dollars to Benevolence International Foundation, a charity directly connected to Bin Laden and Al Qaeda Irfan replied:

" I definitely do not regret it because I did it under the understanding that this was an outstanding institution." [source, http://www.opinionjournal.com/taste/?id=110005269]

When questioned about the savage beheadings of Nicholas Berg and Paul Johnson in Iraq, rather than an outright condemnation, Irfan was muted at best:

"At bottom, though, Mr. Irfan believes that the beheadings simply demonstrate "a primordial sense of retaliation and revenge." [source, http://www.opinionjournal.com/taste/?id=110005269]

In 2002 the CIOGC hosted a high-ranking delegation from the Saudi's Muslim World League [MWL], which has through its efforts established hundreds if not thousands of hard line Wahhabist mosques around the world. The MWL has been labeled by the Center for Security Policy's Alex Alexiev as, "the largest worldwide propaganda campaign ever mounted," and functions as a powerful agent in enforcing radical Islamic religious orthodoxy.

MIM: Da'wa as interfaith:

Our Vision
Faith Inspired leaders from Mahatma Gandhi to Martin Luther King Jr. to the Dalai Lama built effective social change movements by encouraging diverse faith communities to come together on the common ground of helping others. The interfaith Youth Core carries on this legacy by bringing diverse young people of faith together to:

The Interfaith Youth Core is a youth-led, Chicago-based international, interfaith organization. In June of 1998, a group of religiously diverse young people from around the world found a common interest in integrating faith, diversity and social action. Since that first encounter, the Interfaith Youth Core has developed a strong program in Chicago while also taking a leading role in national and international youth work.

Our Chicago Action Program uses a shared values methodology to engage a diverse group of local faith commueboo patel, ifyc, and andrew clark, iarfnities in transformative interfaith social action projects.

Nationally, the IFYC focuses on catalyzing, resourcing and networking the emerging field of interfaith youth work.

Internationally, The IFYC has a history of developing and facilitating workshops and presentations:

MIM: Makki was a board member of the Muslim Youth Center in Bridgeview and attends the Bridgeview Mosque Foundation. The Bridgeview Mosque is a known Hamas enclave and boasted at least one of the 9/11 hijackers as a congregant.

"...Sheik Jamal[Said] an imam at the mosque ... developed a national reputation and easily attracted prominent Muslim activists to Bridgeview. Abdullah Azzam, Osama bin Laden's spiritual mentor, visited the mosque in the mid-1980s as part of a national tour to recruit supporters for the U.S.-backed Afghan war against the Soviet Union. At least three Bridgeview men signed up. "[Jamal]raised money at one national Islamic conference by asking people to donate in the memory of a Palestinian suicide bomber..." http://www.investigativeproject.org/article/132

MIM: An article about Muslims in America reported on how they were given a tour of the mosque by Makki. After 9/11 a mob wanted to march on the Bridgeview Mosque. Instead of attributing it to anger over the mosque's known radical ties Makki blamed in on "jealously" "by lower class whites" [because] we live in nicer houses than they do".

Hind Makki, a petite student, proudly takes visitors on a tour of the mosque. ...Makki, 25, says that her dream job is to work for the State Department in Washington. She comes from a conservative family. On the day after Sept. 11, when the images of the fallen towers had barely taken hold in the collective consciousness, residents of a nearby trailer park had banded together and planned to attack the mosque. Church elders and the police managed to avert violence, but the group did inflict some minor damage.

"Jealousy was part of it," says Makki, "they were lower-class whites who couldn't stand the fact that we live in nicer houses than they do." http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,505573-2,00.html

In 2006 CAIR conducted an election volunteer training session at the Muslim Youth Center where Makki sat on the board. http://www.cairchicago.org/ournews.php?file=on_election_day_training10112006

She returned to her native southwest suburban Chicago, where she worked extensively within the Muslim community on matters regarding integration in American society, interfaith dialogue, education and youth leadership development. She was a board member of the Muslim Youth Center located in Bridgeview and currently sits on the board of the Southwest Interfaith Team (SWIFT), representing the Orland Park Prayer Center. She has been a mentor and team advisor of the Aqsa School Model UN team since 2004.
