Austrian Politician Faces Jail For Remarks About Islam

The president of the Austrian Muslim community, Anas Schakfeh, warned that there is a very "wrathful mood" among Muslims and stated that violence could not be ruled out. Towards that end they have started an investigation of the matter to, "determine whether she violated the law forbidding expressions of racial hatred."

The political witch-hunt being engaged in by the Austrian government against Suzanne Winter is part of a widening campaign in European countries to silence right wing politicians who are vocal critics of the Islamization of Europe.

Austrian Politician Suzanne Winter Hires Bodyguards After Threatening Video Aired

January 15, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Susanne Winter [see Austrian Politician Faces Jail For Remarks About Islam] the FPO party candidate who is running for the Graz city council in Austria, has been forced to retain the services of bodyguards after a threatening video was placed on You Tube.
The video includes threats and the sounds of machine gun fire as pictures of the burning World Trade Center are shown. Accompanying the video is a written text:
"Look at this Suzanne, due to your comments something similiar can occur in your country - you will be responsible for it."
The message was not only directed at Winter but also:
"on all the unbelievers who have no respect for Allah and Islam. Inshallah the day will come when you will be punished."
The origin of the video is unknown. At the end it only says "Made by Bilal and Jasko".

Terrordrohung auf YouTube wegen anti-islamischer Ausfälle. Die Kritik an der Grazer FPÖ-Spitzenkandidatin hält weiter an.
WIEN/GRAZ (hoe/pri/maf/stö). Die Dramaturgie passt perfekt: Heinz-Christian Strache beendet die mit halbstündiger Verspätung gestartete Pressekonferenz am Dienstagvormittag in Graz. Mikrofone und Kameras nähern sich für abschließende Fragen dem FPÖ-Obmann. Der zückt sein silber glitzerndes Handy aus der Tasche. Ein kurzer Blick. „Da ham wir's schon: Die ersten Drohvideos", murmelt er.
„Susanne Winter– des war ein Fehler von dir – insallah wirst du bestraft für des was du gesagt hast." Mit diesen Worten beginnt das knapp fünf Minuten lange Drohvideo gegen die Grazer FPÖ-Spitzenkandidatin Susanne Winter, das am Dienstag auf dem Online-Videoportal YouTube aufgetaucht ist und inzwischen wieder entfernt wurde. Der Titel: „Anti Susanne Winter und Ungläubige."
Die Video-Botschaft zeigt zunächst einen Mitschnitt von Winters Rede beim Grazer FPÖ-Neujahrstreffen am Sonntag, in der sie die vielfach kritisierte Aussage getätigt hat, dass Mohammed in der heutigen Zeit ein „Kinderschänder" wäre und dass er den Koran „in epileptischen Anfällen" verfasst habe.
Brennendes World Trade Center
„Das war ein Fehler", lautet die Botschaft an die freiheitliche Politikerin. „Und mit solchen Menschen hast du dich angelegt. Diese Menschen sind Allah seine Krieger. Diese Krieger sind wir – die Moslems – mit denen du Susanne jetzt ein Problem hast." Es folgen Maschinengewehrsalven und arabische Musik, kombiniert mit Bildern von Kriegsschauplätzen im Nahen Osten, betenden und bewaffneten Muslimen.
Das rauchende World Trade Center vom 11. September 2001 wird an den Schriftzug gekoppelt: „Schau her Susanne wegen deiner Aussage kann sowas Ähnliches auch in deinem Land passieren – du bist verantwortlich dafür." Die Botschaft richtet sich im Übrigen nicht nur an Winter, „sondern an alle Ungläubigen die kein Respekt vor Allah und dem Islam haben. Insallah kommt der Tag an dem ihr bestraft wird." Die Urheber des Videos sind bisher unbekannt. Am Ende heißt es nur: „Made by Bilal & Jasko."
Das Innenministerium bestätigte Dienstagmittag Ermittlungen zum Droh-Video gegen die Grazer FP-Chefin. Derzeit sei man dabei, die Urheber des auf der Internet-Plattform YouTube veröffentlichten Videos zu ermitteln. Erst dann könne eine endgültige Bewertung und Einschätzung abgegeben werden. „Wir nehmen das natürlich sehr ernst", meinte Ministeriums-Sprecher Rudolf Gollia zur „Presse". Winter hat Personenschutz von der Polizei-Sondereinheit Cobra angeboten erhalten und wird diesen auch in Anspruch nehmen.
Das Video hat möglicherweise einen serbischen Hintergrund. Am Ende des knapp fünfminütigen Clips ist ein Wappen zu sehen, das immer wieder mit der Region Sandschak, in der hauptsächlich Muslime leben, in Verbindung gebracht wird. Über dem Wappen ist der bosnische Schriftzug „Sandzaklije – smo mi – Oni pred kojim drhtu svi" zu lesen. Übersetzt heißt das: „Sandschaken sind wir, vor denen alle zittern."
Keine Entschuldigung
Indes bleibt Susanne Winter dabei: „Ich kann mich nicht entschuldigen, weil ich es nicht böse gemeint habe", kommentiert sie ihre umstrittenen Aussagen über den Islam und dessen Propheten Mohammed. Sie wollte „nur Umstände aufzeigen, die im Argen liegen", begründete sie am Dienstag.
„Man hätte das auch anders formulieren können", relativierte der nach Graz geeilte FPÖ-Bundesparteiobmann Heinz-Christian Strache zunächst. Er sprach von einer „überspitzten Formulierung" und „emotionalen Weise". „Wir haben nichts gegen den Islam", beteuerte Strache, um im nächsten Halbsatz in ein FPÖ-bewährtes Verteidigungsmuster zu schwenken: Den Angriff. Es sei „unglaublich perfid", wie jetzt versucht werde, Winter für den Terror in London und Madrid verantwortlich zu machen. Das seien „lächerliche Verhetzungsversuche", wetterte Strache. Vielmehr gehe es darum, die Demokratie zu verteidigen.
Außerdem verwies der FPÖ-Chef auf „tausende Zwangsbeschneidungen in Österreich" und Zwangsverheiratungen, von denen zu 50 Prozent muslimische Mädchen betroffen seien. Strache berief sich auf einen Bericht der Kinder- und Jugendanwaltschaft Wien, in dem derartige Zahlen allerdings nicht vorkommen. „Wir lassen uns nicht instrumentalisieren", so Jugendanwältin Monika Pinterits auf „Presse"-Nachfrage.
Kritik hält an
Die Kritik an Winter hielt auch am Dienstag an. Bundespräsident Heinz Fischer verurteilte die Aussagen als „absolut unakzeptabel": „Das war nicht die Stimme Österreichs, das war eine Stimme, von der wir uns distanzieren." Als „erschreckend" bezeichnete der Tiroler Landeshauptmann Herwig van Staa (ÖVP) die „Ausfälle" der Grazer FPÖ-Spitzenkandidatin.
Der Kärntner Landeshauptmann Jörg Haider (BZÖ) meinte, es sei nicht zielführend, „über den 1500 Jahre alten Mohammed zu diskutieren und somit eine Einladung an Bombenleger auszusprechen". Der grüne Sicherheitssprecher Peter Pilz verlangte ein Ende der antimuslimischen Hetze durch FPÖ und BZÖ. Der steirische Landtag wies die „Herabwürdigung und Verunglimpfung" der islamischen Religionsgemeinschaft auf das Entschiedenste zurück.
STEIN DES ANSTOSSESMit rüden verbalen Ausritten sorgte Susanne Winter am Sonntag beim FPÖ-Neujahrstreffen in Graz für Aufregung. Sie warnte vor einem „islamischen Einwanderungs-Tsunami über Graz" und forderte, den Islam „dorthin zurückzuwerfen, wo er hergekommen ist: jenseits des Mittelmeeres". Den Koran habe Mohammed „in epileptischen Anfällen" geschrieben. Außerdem wäre er heute „ein Kinderschänder, weil er ein sechsjähriges Mädchen geheiratet hat".

Austrian President condemns FPÖ attack on Islam
Austrian President Heinz Fischer has "decisively condemned" Graz FPÖ politician Susanne Winter's attack on Islam.
Fischer added during his New Year's reception for the diplomatic corps Tuesday that Winter's remarks were "not the voice of Austria but one that we must distance ourselves from."
Winter, who heads her party's list for the January 20 city municipal election, has defended her attack on Islam at her party's Sunday New Year's meeting in the city. She has said that she will stand by her position. "I don't know what I should retract."
Winter had stated that Islamic prophet Mohammed had been "a child molester" and written the Koran "during epileptic fits." She also called Islam "a totalitarian system of domination."
FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache stood up for Winter during an interview on ORF ZiB2 Monday evening, claiming that she had perhaps used extreme rhetoric because she was a mother.
Strache claimed that Winter had only wanted to raise public consciousness of problems with contemporary Islam. Strache hastened to add: "We are not criticising Islam. We have great respect for it." At the same time, the FPÖ leader warned that no one would be able to muzzle the party.
FPÖ MEP Andreas Mölzer added during an appearance on an ORF round-table after ZiB2 that Austria faced the danger of "an aggressive Islamic migration" and claimed that the culture of Austria's 400,000 Muslims had nothing to do with the country's dominant historic culture.
Community of Islamic Believers (IGGiÖ) President Anas Schakfeh, another round-table participant, called Winter's Sunday remarks "very dangerous." He added that IGGiÖ supported dialogue and mutual understanding and thanked Austria's democratic parties for their repudiation of her statements.
Political scientist Peter Filzmeier said on the same program that Winter had perhaps intended her remarks to give her name recognition only a week before Graz's municipal election.
SPÖ Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer has called Winter's comments "unacceptable and condemnable," and ÖVP Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Wilhelm Molterer excluded the possibility of a coalition between the FPÖ and his party, calling for a "firewall" between the FPÖ and the other parties.
ÖVP Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik added that Winter had "intentionally engaged in an act of provocation." Plassnik rejected attempts to endanger social peace in Austria through "abstruse prejudice" coming from "the bottom drawer."

Graz FPÖ politician Susanne Winter lhas attacked Islam as a religion at her party's New Year's meeting in the Styrian capital.
Winter, who is head of the FPÖ's list for the January 20 municipal, election, called Islamic prophet Mohammed "a child molester" because of his alleged marriage to a six-year-old girl and "a field marshal" who had written the Koran during "epileptic fits."
She termed Islam "a totalitarian system of domination that should be thrown back to its birthplace on the other side of the Mediterranean."
Winter added on Monday that "there is widespread abuse of children among Muslim men" but then declared that she didn't want to offend anyone or insult any religion.
She also defended her Sunday statement that "a Muslim immigration tsunami" could occur. "In 20 or 30 years, half the population of Austria will be Muslim" if the SPÖ and ÖVP's immigration policy continues in effect, she said.
In response, the Community of Islamic Believers official responsible for integration, Omar Al-Rawi, called Winter's remarks an instance of "lack of respect" and "false." He claimed that "Islam-bashing" had reached
a "sickening and evil" level.
Community spokeswoman Carla Amina Baghajati added on Monday that Winter's remarks were a threat to social peace.
"Dialogue is very important to us. But that kind of hatred and promotion of images of enemies will make it more difficult. It threatens to poison the climate," she said.
Baghajati added that FPÖ statements were more and more "unappetising, provocative and disrespectful."
The ÖVP, SPÖ, Greens and BZÖ have strongly criticised Winter's remarks.
Graz public prosecutor's office spokesman Manfred Kammerer has said that the office will examine them to determine whether she violated the law forbidding expressions of racial hatred.
Winter will have to take a position on her remarks within the next several days. If tried and convicted, she would face up to two years in prison.
FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian said in response to Winter's remarks that there was "freedom of opinion" in the FPÖ.
Strache compared the new EU reform treaty to the 1938 "Anschluss" or merger of Austria and Germany as a result of German occupation.
