JTA, THE JERUSALEM POST Oct. 26, 2006

Prosecutors in Argentina asked a judge to order the arrest of a former Iranian president and seven others in connection with the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center.

Prosecutors said at a news conference Wednesday that the decision to call for the arrest of Hashemi Rafsanjani was made because the decision to attack the AMIA center, an Argentinean Jewish community center, which they said was carried out by Hizbullah, was made with the knowledge of top Iranian authorities.

Iran has denied any involvement in the July 18, 1994, attack, which killed 85 people and wounded an estimated 300.

The report "makes clear yet again that Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism and shows for all the world the threat we now face," the president of the World Jewish Congress, Edgar Bronfman, said in a statement.
