Shuttered Kind Hearts' charity' tied to Al Qaeda - Asia coordinator Zulfiqar Ali Shah former head of Islamic Circle of North America

February 24, 2006

KINDHEARTS HAD AN AL-QAEDA CONNECTION

AAH CALLS ON U.S. GOVERNMENT TO TAKE ZULFIQAR
ALI SHAH INTO CUSTODY

(Coral Springs, FL) This past Sunday the 19th, KindHearts, an Ohio-based Islamic charity, was shut down by the U.S. government. The reason given for the freezing of KindHearts' funds was that the organization was raising money for the terrorist group Hamas. While this was certainly the case, the charity, too, has connections to Al-Qaeda.

The South Asia Division Coordinator of KindHearts is Zulfiqar Ali Shah, the former President (Ameer) of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), an organization that, shortly before 9/11, promoted and raised funds for groups tied to Al-Qaeda.

Prior to the organization's closure, Shah went on a ten day KindHearts tour - through more than ten cities - with members of Tablighi Jamaat, a Pakistani organization that The New York Times described as a "recruitment" center for Al-Qaeda. The Tablighi members were Junaid Jamshed and Saeed Anwar. During this tour, KindHearts claimed to have raised $1.5 million.

In mid-March, Shah is scheduled to speak at a Muslim Students Association (MSA) "Zonal Conference" ('Reviving the Muslim Sunnah - Awakening the Soul') to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Americans Against Hate (AAH) calls on the U.S. government to take Zulfiqar Ali Shah, a Florida resident, into custody, before the MSA event occurs, for his role in KindHearts and his working relationship with Al-Qaeda related groups.

AAH Chairman Joe Kaufman stated, "Given that the United States has moved to freeze the funds of KindHearts, and given that the South Asia Division Coordinator of KindHearts, Zulfiqar Ali Shah, has shown his willingness to work with organizations tied to Al-Qaeda, we feel it's incumbent upon the United States to take immediate action against Shah."

Joe Kaufman is available for interview. E-mail: [email protected].
