Kazakhstan -Kapital of Kinkiness ? Country's main source of potential tourist revenue could be it's phallic monuments

"I like to state, I have no connection with Mr Cohen and fully support my government's position to sue this Jew."

MIM: Kazakhstan is right - Sacha Baron Cohen does not need to parody the backwardness of the country using the character of Borat- reading what Khazahstan's governement official are saying about Cohen and looking at Kazakhstan's websites out parody's Cohen's parody!

( It is also worth noting that the Kazakhs cannot agree on how to spell the name of their own country Some times it's spelled as Kazahstan and others Kazakhstan, and that they recently changed their old capitol city for a new one.

Sue me," Borat responds to Kazakh legal threat

1 hour, 56 minutes ago

A British comedian who uses a boorish, sexist and racist Kazakh alter ego called Borat to poke fun at interviewees has responded to a legal threat from the Kazakh authorities by satirically welcoming the move.

Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays the spoof Kazakh television reporter in his "Da Ali G Show," incurred the wrath of Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry this month after appearing as Borat at the annual MTV Europe Music Awards.

He described shooting dogs for fun and said his wife could not leave Kazakhstan as she was a woman. The Foreign Ministry said his behavior was unacceptable and that Cohen might be serving political orders to tarnish Kazakhstan's reputation.

Responding in character as Borat, Cohen, who is Jewish, said: "I like to state, I have no connection with Mr Cohen and fully support my government's position to sue this Jew."

"Since 2003 ... Kazakhstan is as civilized as any other country in the world," he said on his website, www.borat.kz.

"Women can now travel on inside of bus, homosexuals no longer have to wear blue hat and age of consent has been raised to eight years old."

One Western diplomat in the Central Asian state's biggest city Almaty said he at least partly sympathized with the Kazakh government in trying to set the record straight.

"They are damned if they do (respond) and damned if they don't," he said. "It's sort of unfortunate that he hit upon Kazakhstan."

Below a Stalin period 'social realismus' style building with adorned with a large brown object resembling a sex toy.

Perhaps the Kazakhstan tourist industry could start revitalising by calling their countries economy post Stalin by touting it as the country with the most kinky stone monuments in the world!

A Kazakhstan expatriate website which details the regulations applied to visitors certainly points to Kazahkhstan being a Kapitol of Kinkiness and a place for some post Stalinist hanky panky. All one needs is an invitation letter and a recent HIV test. Interestly after 3 months one is obligated to take a new HIV test at the Kazahkstan health ministry which raises the obvious question as to if it saltpeter instead of floride is being put in Kazakh water, since an HIV test after 3 months would only be effective if the person tested did not have sex in the 3 months before. According to the website:

"If you stay longer then 3 months you must pay to go to the Kazakhstan health ministry to have an HIV test or for 25 US dollars. The TENGRI Medical Assistance Company will to come to you to take a blood sample. The best news is that they assure their customers that the are "of course hygienic".

"...To pick up your visa take your invitation letter, passport, a completed visa application form (available from the consulate), three passport-type photographs, and the required fee (it varies from consulate to consulate). If you're applying for a multiple entry visa, you are officially required to present the results of an HIV test taken within the preceding three months..."

"...Once in Kazakhstan, if you're going to stay for more than three days (72 hours) and a non-CIS national, you MUST REGISTER your visa with OVIR (Office of Visas and Registration), the agency that registers foreigners in Kazakhstan..."

"...HIV test requirement
Within 10 days of arrival, all foreigners registered to stay for over three months are required to present a negative HIV test certificate. Results for tests taken abroad are NOT acceptable. Blood testing is done in Almaty at several medical institutions. The International SOS Clinic charges US $50. Results are ready within several days. Address: 11, Luganskogo Street. Tel.: (3272) 91-30-30. The AIDS Prevention and Control Center does the same test for around US $7-8. The Center is located on 7 Talgarskaya Street, between Makatayev Street and Zhibek Zholy Street. Tel.: 7 (3272) 34-94-13. To both SOS and AIDS Center you will have to come twice: to have your blood taken and the second time to pick up your results. TENGRI Medical Assistance Company charges $25, which includes coming to a client's office for blood taking and delivery of the results, all within one day. Tel.: 7 (3272) 58-50-58 (round-the-clock) and 8 333 226 5608 (English speaking). E-mail: [email protected]. All the three institutions use disposable syringes and blood-taking is of course hygienic.
